It was September 29th at 5:14p.m. My friend and I wearily entered as we were on a five hour layover from a hectic flight that kept changing around on us. We figured we'd come and explore the city and enjoy a real Chicago Style Hot Dog. Boy were we in for disappointment. As soon as I approached the register I felt a coldness in the air and everything went silent. I felt like my presence was a pure inconvenience and I was almost taken back in confusion if I was actually at a restaurant or not. I quickly got my bearings and realized the cashier and chef must have been angry that I interrupted whatever they were talking about. It was more like a "what the hell do you want?!" Sort of attitude. I'm new here so just rolled with the punches and proceeded to order as my friend was in the restroom. I ordered the Big Chicago Dog as opposed to the regular for my friend and I to share. The cashier begrudgingly took my order and seemed to slowly remember that this was his job. I waited for not too long and what came out was a very small movie theatre looking like hot dog. If this was a BIG hot dog then whose hunger is being satiated with the regular one? I think they ended up giving me the regular one or maybe they're really trying to save on money by keeping sizes tiny. It did taste great to me but my friend wasn't so into it. So to the people that served me that day, I want you to know one thing. This was my first impression of Chicago, Chicago Hot Dogs, and Chicago Hospitality. You brought a shame to your city and your cities reputation and by the attitude and demeanor I don't think you care about that at all anyway. For the small amount of time I was there, this is what my Chicago experience started out as. But my friend and I filled up on some good food at Tacombi's across the street and it purified the rotten taste that was left in our mouths at Devil Dawg's. The Devil's in the Details and these people were not very detail oriented, but we were...
Read moreI HATE leaving bad reviews, I’ve never done it before actually, but what happened today at this location was something that truly bothered me. I came in on my lunch break to get a quick lunch, and a lady was by the register literally harassing, intimidating people, and getting completely in their space demanding that they buy her food. I didn’t process what was fully happening until it was my turn to order but I immediately regretted not just leaving. She got mad that my full attention wasn’t on her, and trying my best to deescalate the situation because no one else was. I told her that I was sorry but I couldn’t buy her food (1. bc I’m a broke college student and 2. why would I when you are literally threatening and intimidating me.) This made her angry, and she started calling me names and telling me I “messed up.” The person at the register gave her a cup to try and get her to go away I guess, but she takes the cup from him and proceeds to hit me on the head with it with enough force for my head to be pushed back. I’m shocked because now it has progressed past just being verbally abusive to now being physical, and to my absolute surprise, NO ONE DOES ANYTHING. I was shaking waiting for my order while the lady STILL stayed in the restaurant. I was scared that she was going to come back to me when I got my food or even when I tried to leave and I tried my best to get out of there as quickly as possible. I’m just extremely disappointed with the experience as a whole because while I know it isn’t the restaurants fault for her unpredictable behavior, but the second any physical assault happens, it’s their responsibility to protect their patrons and I very much did not feel protected or even acknowledged at all. I love the food here, but I will not be returning since this is the way they handle...
Read moreHi,
I hope the owners read these as I’m only trying to help. I enjoy your food and you have wonderful milkshakes. The only reason I’m not giving the Wicker Park location 5 stars is because of the service. When I’m going out to get food after 9:00, I’m do not have any confidence it will be open, so I don’t even try. I recently went in and ordered a milkshake and a hot dog. There was no one else in line ordering or waiting on food. Got the dog quickly from a top notch employee I really like. The gentleman that decided to make my shake, white guy, mid 40’s with salt and pepper hair. He made my shake and was finished and the phone rang. Instead of handing me the shake, he sets it down by the shake machine and answers the phone. Continues to take this phone order for 5 minutes while I’m just staring at this shake 5 feet out of my reach. I had my dog tied up outside and this just made it that much worse as I was trying to keep an eye on him while debating jumping the counter to get my shake. I eventually tracked down another employee and he handed me my shake.
You have great food and I feel like you would rule Milwaukee Ave where your at if you just had decent or well trained people. Maybe someone who smiles even just a little when you’re ordering. And just stay open until 11:00 no matter what. It’s two hours and not going to break the bank and people will come knowing it’s confidently open. Do you think people question whether McDonalds is open when they want a Big Mac? I just hope it’s not too late and take this advice.
Feel free to reach out with questions or comments. Best of luck at...
