It takes a lot for me to be disappointed with the quality of service at a restaurant because I’ve been a waitress before and I know the stress and chaos that comes with working in the food industry. I was very close to leaving my experience at the restaurant UNTIL the very end which I consider unprofessional all things considered.
I’ve come to Kanela often and the service has always been satisfactory — just not today. The restaurant was very busy and seemed severely understaffed with only two servers working the entire restaurant, and so naturally, everything took a long time; a long time to order, a long time to get things we asked for, etc. And it was annoying, but I also didn’t want to blame my server for someone else’s staffing negligence. Our server seemed stressed which was understandable given the fact she was likely juggling half the tables in the restaurant, though an apology at any given point would have been appreciated. Additionally, there was seemingly no manager in sight…?
Anyway, I felt pretty bad for our waitress and the other employees working. When the bill came, I made a couple notes on the receipt because we didn’t receive a few things so I didn’t want to be charged for them. The missing items probably amounted to $3.00 total. Not a huge deal…. Or so I thought lol.
Within minutes, the cook came over to our table to basically tell us that we were wrong, and that he had made our food correctly without error, which struck me as very arrogant and insulting given the fact that it was only $3 and especially because I had been extremely patient and nice the entire dining experience. Literally what reasoning would I have to lie about such a small amount of money?
They proceeded to give us $15 off regardless, which was nice I guess??? But still doesn’t excuse the fact that the cook working decided to instigate a conflict for no reason other than to bandage his ego.
The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth, and I’ll probably rethink the next time I want to come through.
Besides the cook who made our food, the other employees were okay and doing the best they could given the...
Read moreI had an absolutely TERRIBLE experience at this restaurant. I went here for brunch on a Sunday, after a reasonable wait my friend and I were seated. We had to wait a little while for our server to come to our table with water and to take our order, not great but not a big deal. We ordered bottomless coffee and 2 egg dishes (should not take long to prepare), our server brought the coffee and then DID NOT COME BACK. After maybe 20 minutes we had finished our coffee and water and could not get the attention of a single server in the restaurant to get refills, I had to get up and walk across the restaurant to ask for more coffee and water. After ~45 minutes sitting in this restaurant, still with no food, I had to get up again (because our server was ignoring us and I could not get anyone's attention) to ask the server if our food was coming. The food came out shortly after that and the egg on my eggs benedict was COMPLETELY RAW, I'm not talking slightly undercooked, the egg white was completely clear and snot like as if it was cracked directly onto the plate. When I noticed this I literally waved my arms in the air to get someone's attention, yet still failed. I got up and told the server about my uncooked egg, the server directed me to the manager- to whom I expressed my dissatisfaction about both the food and the service. The manager apologized saying he would "make it up to us" and then clarified multiple times that I want my egg "cooked?" to which, on the third time, I specified "I want the white cooked and the yolk runny" as is standard for a poached egg. When my food finally came out, an hour after we had sat down, the egg was of course overcooked but at this point I was very hungry and just wanted to eat. When we got the bill the manager "made it up to us" by comping our $8 coffee AND NOTHING ELSE. I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND...
Read moreFound this place on google and had heard of it through friends before so my best friend and I decided to give it a try. She ordered: eggs Benedict with side salad and matcha smoothie. My order: chilaquiles and berry blast smoothie. Our serve was very nice. There was no wait so we were sat quickly. Brought us a jug of room temperature water with two cups. No ice. To give the benefit of the doubt we could’ve asked for some. Anyways. Friend said smoothies were good which I agree they were delicious. She was satisfied with her dish. Now I couldn’t say the same. It was watery and had a funny taste to it. Now i understand a business is a business and we should pay for services of course. I conveyed to the server that I wasn’t too fond of the dish and if I could have an omelette instead and she responds nicely saying she can put the order in but just so I know that my original dish can not be taken off bill. I said ok. My omelette was delicious no problem. Our bill was $58.86 because they indeed did not remove the dish. I payed in cash $60 and the waiter returned and placed $3 exact on the table. Now I’m not cheap I tip very well at restaurants, having worked as a cashier and waitress many time before, though it was only 0.15 which I would could care less honestly I just think it’s the principle of the thing to bring back someone’s change or to at least ask if I could like the coins not just take it upon yourself and not give exact change back even after still charging me for a dish that wasn’t satisfactory. Needless to say I wouldn’t be back anytime soon. Perhaps will try one of their...
