I booked the double room for one guest during my short stay in Chicago during St Patrick’s Day weekend. This place surprised me in a good way! I will preface that this place seems odd: 1) it seems like no one really works here? I never saw anyone at the front desk for like 3 days and I think the bathrooms are cleaned every couple of days so I saw a cleaned bathroom once but who knows if the Leprechauns did it? 2) there are a bunch of codes for the building (honestly made me feel safer that someone would have to know more than two electronic door codes to “get me” and 3) the rooms are just interesting? Overall, I would totally recommend this room if you don’t want to stay in a hostel but want a really cheap room to your self (with tv, queen sized bed, and interestingly large fridge). The location is also very convenient as it’s close to the brown line train and is in downtown Chicago (also in regard to location, it’s just removed enough from the judge and bustle that it’s not loud). But yeah, I was super nervous when I booked this (I did booking.com) because it seemed like this place didn’t exist (it shares an address with a few other places on google maps) and I was going to be by myself. But I would even do this again if I wanted a cheap non-hostel experience. I will say that the state of the bathroom definitely depends on who is staying there at the time you are because you share 2 bathrooms for one floors of like 15 rooms (was not a problem for me at the time) and some people are messier than others so it I could see that posing a problem for some but for me it wasn’t bad. Very...
Read moreThis was one of the worst hostel stays I have ever had. My payment info was collected in a sketchy way (texted and called from several numbers asking for the card info, they had to write it down and try it later). When we got there the codes we were sent were wrong, called the owner and he was incredibly rude and refused that he sent the wrong numbers and told us we just didn’t know what we were doing, took about an hour to get into our room. He also charged us extra for changing the reservation over a month in advance, despite the policy saying we could change it with 2 day notice free of charge. Called us cheap for fighting for $50 dollars and to get out and try and find a place if I had an issue with it. Sent screenshots and he finally agreed to refund after two hours of back to back calls from him yelling at us several days later and still no refund.
Rooms were ok, shared bathrooms were pretty dirty, the guy living in the third floor was nice, area was ok but the hotel is not marked and has no elevators and steep stairs( all rooms on second floor).
I would advise you stay at another spot, stayed at several hostels and Get Away hostel and HI Chicago were both...
Read moreI am nearing the end of a two week stay here and I cannot recommend it enough. I as a bit nervous because of some of the reviews but it’s been wonderful. No one is there to check you in, it’s all by code, but it was straightforward and all my questions and concerns were answered promptly via text. I was given a room on the first floor so only one flight of stairs thank goodness and nice windows, a large fridge, spacious for the price. The location was perfect, I was able to walk to the work I had while I was in town as well as to many different tourist sites on my days off. Bathrooms were clean considering that many people are sharing them and everything I asked for was taken care of. The only complaint I have is that there are four bathrooms but only two of them have toilets which did make me waiting anxiously some mornings needing the restroom but other than that, everything was absolutely wonderful and I hope to be able to stay here every time I’m in town. It cannot be beaten for the price...
