I saw this place on tiktok and it was really overhyped. I went with my girlfriend and we had to fight to get a reservation only to find that only 30% of the tables were occupied....truly an illusion of "this place is popular bc it's good".

Starting with the food, the food was terrible. I feel like I could have cook a better meal with ingredients from my local 7/11 convenience store. It had no spice or seasoning to it. It was even missing salt and pepper. I ordered the Fettuccine Lucia for an astronomical $26. The menu says it is grilled chicken, sundried tomatoes, mushrooms, creamy tomato sauce, but it tasted like the chicken was cooked on a George Forman Grill from 2003. It was extremely dry and I could not eat it. The sauce tasted like ragu. I had to douse the dish in parmesan cheese only to eat maybe 20% of it.

I was really expecting some beautiful dishes with stellar service but even the service was awful. I ordered a coke/pepsi and they walked by me several time with my glass empty and didn't offer to refill it. They also gave us 1 pitcher of water which we drank and they didn't offer us anymore. I was so thirsty still from eating the dry chicken.

For 2 people we spent $95 and still left 20% tip. We will not be returning in the future. I cannot recommend this place to anyone. We took out food to go and on the walk home we left it on a bench...

This is a perfect Italian Neighborhood spot. I love the atmosphere and it is my standard for chicago italian food. I live within a few blocks and always take out the pizza. It is comparable to Pizza Mici and doesn’t get enough credit.

Such a short walk from West Loop, it is comparable quality with a cozier neighborhood atmosphere.

This beats West Loop Italian any time.

Read on for overly pretentious and harsh critique. This is only because prices are compared to west loop.

Unfortunately, it is west loop prices. The technical execution is not there to demand 30-40 price tags. The kitchen sends out dishes a bit too early

THE FLAVOR IS THERE!!! —- butttttt… sauce has not reduced enough, meat has little sear and vegetables are a bit too soft… not much sautee and those high technical bits a 40$ entree should have. They have done the hard part with flavor and feel, but final execution is lacking.

I ordered the braciole and it came out quicker than i expected. Great flavor, but smothered with peppers that were unnecessary… sauce could have used 3 more minutes of reduction. It would have been perfect. Pushed out too quick and a misstep at a high price tag.

West loop you pay over for execution… here you over pay for the neighborhood feel… I’ll take this over the west...

Their pizza is so bad that it's not even categorized as a "bad" pizza in Chicago - it’s in a category all its own.

It’s not comparable to anyone else’s pizza in the city and raises serious questions about the restaurant's commitment to quality.

Honestly, any place that serves a pizza this terrible clearly doesn’t care about the food they’re putting out.

They might not expect anyone to buy it or even notice, but this pizza is so far from being good, it doesn't even qualify as pizza.

Sure, it has the basic ingredients - crust, sauce, and cheese - but each one is the absolute worst choice.

The cheese is processed, the sauce is tasteless, and the crust has a texture like some kind of store bought cracker base.

It’s tasteless, inedible, and unworthy of being called pizza.

No joke. Buy it and see for yourselves and have a laugh. It's insane that a restaurant claiming to be high quality would ever serve something so horrible. So, it’s worth the $20 just to know a restaurant like this exists in Chicago. We would have never...

The place from outside looks more like a bar, but it’s definitely a little hidden gem if you’re looking for delicious Italian food. I, myself, not a big fan of Italian kitchen, but this place is definitely worth it! The food is good quality and very flavorful. It’s not a very spacious place, and you definitely need a reservation, but is very cosy looking inside. Parking is tough, but they do offer valet service. Grilled calamari was delicious! Salmon was oceanic, didn’t know it came with pasta, which wasn’t bad, but the fish and vegetables were delicious. Cannoli was pretty good, but not the best, however cappuccino was very good! The waiter was okay, but was a little too busy, and could definitely do a better job of coming by a little more frequently. The owner was very nice!! Don’t come to Downtown areas too often anymore unfortunately, because of the safety concerns, but if someone wants to come here and drive, definitely would come back!

If Frank Sinatra were alive, this is where he'd be dining—Mart Anthony’s is hands-down the best Italian restaurant in Chicago! From the moment you step in, the warm and welcoming owner, John, makes you feel like the most important person in the room. The food? Absolutely phenomenal. My favorite dish is the Chicken Saltimbocca, but the sugo and the sausage with peppers are just like my Nana used to make—pure comfort on a plate. The new outdoor patio is magical, like dining inside a snow globe, complete with heated floors to keep you cozy. The valet guy is incredibly kind, and every server is the epitome of perfection, ensuring an unforgettable experience every time. If you're looking for authentic Italian food served with love and old-school charm, look no further than Mart Anthony’s. It’s a true Chicago gem!
