I've been going to SalonDJ for several years to get my hair cut and colored (highlights or balayage) with Nikki Troester. She is so well trained at her craft and is really an artist. Before I moved to Chicago, I had had my hair cut and colored by the same stylist for about 8 years and was very reluctant to try someone new. Nikki built my trust over time, to the point that I felt 100% comfortable just telling her the "vibe" I was looking for (e.g., "summery, lighter" or, when I was starting job interviews, "professional, lower maintenance") and trusted that she would translate this vision into something that was flattering to my skin tone, face shape, and hair texture. Our most recent project was to go almost fully blonde (my natural hair color is black). We'd discussed doing this for over a year before finally taking the plunge. She set expectations appropriately (it would take several visits, at a higher frequency than usual in order to transition my hair color in a way that was SAFE for my hair.) I sadly am leaving Chicago permanently for a new job, but she even had a suggestion for a stylist in my new city and texted that stylist to fill her in on the specific dyes she'd been using, our blonde-ification project, etc. She totally didn't have to go to that length, but did because 1) she is a really warm, wonderful person AND 2) she is a true artist who wants to make sure the hair she's spent years working on (mine) continues to look its best. Let me start by saying you can’t go wrong at Salon DJ. From the moment you walk in, everyone is so lovely. The staff is kind and the stylists are knowledgeable. They meet with every client to determine what they are looking for, get a feel for who they are, and then guide them to the best care. The entire experience is exactly what a salon should be. They take care of you from start to finish with no exceptions! Salon DJ is my favorite salon I have ever been to, from the atmosphere to the people – an overall 10/10 experience!

Obviously I am biased, but Karah is the absolute BEST. I moved to Chicago and didn’t cut my hair for a year and half because I didn’t trust anyone. Enter Karah. I will never see anyone else for my hair ever again! I trust her implicitly and she has even gotten me to experiment with styles, colors, treatments, all which have helped my hair tremendously. My hair is the healthiest it has been in YEARS and it is all thanks to Karah. She is so meticulous at every appointment and is constantly educating herself and mastering new skills all of which then is directly passed on to her clients’ benefit. I have gotten to the point where I just do what Karah tells me to! It is a relationship I have never had with any stylist, but with Karah, I know she always has my best interest and I know she would never do something on me that she wouldn’t do on herself. She...

I have been in Chicago for a little over 4 years now and have tried many salons in my time here. A friend recommended Salon DJ to me when I was living in the city and I loved it- it's nice and spacious and the staff and clientele are all very nice. I am originally for NY, so most of the salons I have been to in the past were overly bougie and I always felt like people were judgy and I have never felt that with Salon DJ. They are also incredible at what they do!  Then I moved out to the burbs and thought I should find something more convenient for my color/ cut needs, but let me just say that was a HORRIBLE idea!  My hair got so destroyed trying new more convenient options, so I went back to Jim and Karah at Salon DJ. Jim is literally magical with hair color and managed to turn my orange fried hair back to its normal shade (not an easy thing to do).  Karah is also amazing and is not scissor happy as I find most stylists to be.

Long story short- if you’re not thrilled with your current salon or are looking for a good one, look no further!  Salon DJ is the best place and driving the 30 minutes to get there is 100 percent worth it.  They have ample parking available, the ambiance is super chill and the people are wonderful.
