El Sabor de Mexico- this review is a love letter
A note about how your food invites me to the sweetest memories I have from Mexico.
As a native New Yorker, and someone who frequents this spot when I’m in town, I can’t let go of how good this food is. The small bites and fast food here is made so well. Sometimes I sit here and people watch. This spot brings together locals: kids on scooters/ bikes, elderly with newspapers who sit here for hours chatting up the owner or little ones yearning for their cool summer ice cream. While it was different from what I usually get at a taqueria (I usually get the al pastor), the pork torta here was one of my favorite sandwiches that I've ever had! The pork is pulled pork in chipotle sauce, with lettuce, sour cream, jalapenos, and mustard. It reminded me of a Cuban sandwich.
As for the ice cream, I get the mint. It has a strong mint flavor and plenty of sweetness. Perfect. Just how I like it!
How could it get any better? The prices are reasonable. I got a torta, ice cream, and a topo chico (bottled sparkling mineral water) for $11! I would say that's pretty good...
