Food poisoning!!!!!!🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩 We ended up getting sick we both had a stomach ache after eating here and I had diarrhea and we didn't have any issues until after eating here! So FYI, we won't be coming back here bc of that. We also decided to compare to los coyotes which is across the street and we usually go there and have never gotten sick from their food. Went to los comales on a Friday evening, food was what I expected!! Ordered the specialty tacos which cost more, they were fish ($4) and Chile relleno ($5) and my bestie got the lengua ($4) and large horchata ($5), our total was $40 before tip and with tax. Kinda pricey but taco prices have increased so much!!!! 😵‍💫 Lengua is super flavorful and has a meat like texture I guess the way they chopped or shredded it gives it that feeling of eating meat. It was Soo good. I loved it but my bestie prefers the lengua at los coyotes across the street bc they don't chop it up they give a whole piece. The Chile relleno was huge!!!! I was so full after just that one taco it's well stuffed with cheese and so delicious! The fish taco was fried and it was good with the salsa and the orange sauce they provide on the side. Without it the fish was plain tasting so it definitely needs some salt in the batter before deep frying. But if you add the salsa and the sauce it's very good. The horchata was very sweet not a fan. I prefer the horchata at los coyotes. Overall, we enjoyed the food. Pros and cons of this place and los coyotes but we agreed that the tacos at los coyotes are bigger. The tortillas they use at los comales are smaller which is why I couldn't give 5 stars. The corn tortilla they used for specialty tacos, the Chile relleno and fish taco is what I'm used to eating at most taco joints and is what is served at los coyotes across the street but the lengua tacos were in smaller white tortillas here at los comales. I attached a pic below. Overall, the food was served quickly and the service was better than most places, we were served right away probably less than 15 min and we got our food. They have many waitresses whom approached our table several times to see if we needed anything which is nice but it was annoying after a while, they came to our table 5x to ask, interrupting our eating and conversation each time. It was also a different waitress too. They should have a section for each waitress so that we don't have different people coming up to our table trying to see if we need anything. One waitress would come up and ask and we would say we were good and then another waitress would come up and ask the same thing it was so annoying I started to feel harassed. Hard to find parking FYI we had to park a few blocks away. Metered parking up front but not many spots available. We won't be coming back because I'm pretty sure it was something there that they served us that made us sick.

I had a terrible experience with this restaurant yesterday night. I ordered through Uber Eats and the food arrived destroyed and messy. A container of liquid spilled all over the bags. Aside from the poor delivery, the food itself was not good. I ordered the birria tacos. The “consome” was broth from a cup of nasty ramen noodles. And then the broth is what spilled all over so there was just noodles left. I had to eat the tacos dry and then they weren’t that good. Didn’t finish them. Oh and the restaurant doesn’t even put the toppings inside the tacos, they placed the chopped onions and cilantro into individual sections of the styrofoam container. You have to dress the taco yourself. My partner had the chicken tostada and nopales gordita. The bread for tostada was very thin and flimsy. Both the tostada and gordita were too oily for him to eat. Everything got trashed. Thanks to Uber Eats, I got a FULL refund and just ordered from somewhere else.

The food was good but due to either understaffing and/or lack of structure, I can not say the same of the service. I ordered many things, one of which was a taco dinner. I ordered with one server and another ran my food (it happens) but only brought 2/3 tacos and forgot the rice and beans. When brought the missing taco, I still had to point out that my rice and beans were missing. After being brought to me by *another* person, I received a disingenuous “sorry about that.” When going to pay, I explained to the cashier that I was charged separately for the tacos and rice when I should have been charged for the dinner. When she explained that to one of her colleagues, she responded “…es qué decía,” meaning “…that’s what s/he said.” How would you know what either me or my server said if you never even came to my table? Am unlikely to visit this location again.

Visited with three friends, two of which were non-Spanish speaking.

We ordered tortas, one asada and one de pechuga del pollo a la plancha (being closest to grilled). The torta de pechuga was for a friend who specifically has dietary restrictions, so when they brought out a torta de pechuga empanizado (breaded) we were all visibly confused.

Myself and my other Spanish speaking friend went to speak with some of the waitresses as we didn't have one specific waitress, but more so they rotated who would drop by our table. She and another waitress then proceeded to explain to us the differences between plancha, parrilla, and asado, when we had clarified in our order that we wanted grilled due to dietary restrictions. When trying to rectify the problem, they sent us back to our table, saying that there was nothing wrong with the food they sent out and insinuating that we just ordered wrong. We then ordered another torta de pechuga, insisting they just put chicken on the flattop because we didn't want to leave our friend without eating, to which they continued to pushback on us for, stating that what we were ordering was not something they offered, despite listing it on their menu. A 3rd (different) waitress then brought out the food and stood there with visible disdain and asked if it was good enough and we said it was good (they brought us a grilled chicken breast torta). After later paying and leaving, the entirety of the kitchen staff waved to us and smirking/laughing at us as we left.

Overall, really disappointed, I was really hoping to put some friends onto this spot as my family has been coming here for years and loves the food. However, it was really upsetting to be essentially gaslit by staff who kept rotating out and no one really listening to us on what we wanted for our friend. Would have loved to see eye-to-eye and level with the staff as I prefer to work through conflict, but the staff kept rotating out and no one really took accountability for the issue at hand or for the miscommunication.

Food is a 5/5, service was 1/5. Will very likely not...

wow, where do I even begin... I have been ordering food from this location since I first moved to Pilsen. I love the food here and always found my way back here on a late night when most places are closed.

However last weekend, I placed an order for 2 chimichangas for pickup. The total came to $18. When I was signing the receipt, I was in a hurry so I only left my signature and did not write in 0.00 for the tip portion.

I went home, chowed down my yummy chimichanga, and called it a night. The next day I noticed on my bank statement that order was still processing from $18, then changed to $23 the next day.

I have been working in the service industry myself and know what this most likely means. And my first thought was somebody who was thirsty for that $5 wrote in $5 to mooch off a loyal customer.

The most upsetting part of it all, is that when I went back into the restaurant a couple days later to speak with the manager about the issue, they didn't have a care in the world.

Granted, I did not have my receipt because after I finished my meal I threw it out. That's on me. All I was hoping to get out of this was for them to hear me out and get an apology. I was not expecting a refund. The main reason why I stepped in there was to bring awareness to the manager that some server must have had the gall to write in a tip where it was left blank.

I have called my bank and they have confirmed that someone had indeed added in a $5tip. They are already disputing this transaction I guess that's that!

I certainly didn't want it to be this way, but because of the way they handled the situation. I have no interest in returning or ever supporting their business, no matter how tasty their chimichangas...
