It’s a rarity in 2025 to be able to get a burger and a beer for $12 but Small Bar/Patty Please delivers. Imagine a dive bar, that had had a bit of a face lift and a solid food menu and you have small bar. Tucked away within a neighborhood like a true Chicago tavern, small bar has drafts for $8, bottles and cans starting at $4 and. Single cheesburger called The Pleaser (3/5) for $8. I really enjoyed the pleaser, it’s a very solid burger overall. It had perfectly caramelized onions, cheese and pleaser sauce. It had a pickle, which normally i love, but felt out of place on this burger. The French fries are also solid, perfectly salted and thin and crispy. No crinkle cut here! Also I’m pretty anti-TV in a Chicago Dive but it was SO nice to see they had one frame tv playing March madness, meaning when the game goes off it can go back to being a piece of art. Loved that so much. Overall would recommend visiting, if you’re in the neighborhood or want a quick, casual lunch. I’ll probably come back, but definitely think there are some better burgers in the city. However, you absolutely can’t beat the price, the ambience, the staff or the vibes!

Pretty good smash burger with griddled onions, and it’s surprisingly cheap. It comes wrapped in aluminum foil. I suggest you leave it wrapped a minute or two to make the juices rest because it will be like a juice party one you bite into it. Mine came with slightly burnt onions on some of the edges (taste-wise, not only color). This is ok as I only felt it in like 2 bites. Maybe the pan was too hot, just please be careful as these burnt bits give off bitter flavors. Overall, taste to price ratio, you really can’t complain, and the service was fast and friendly.

EDIT: So I either went in on an off day or the owner read my review. Either way, the burger is MUCH bigger than the one I was previously served. And way tastier. Definitely one of Chicagos elite burgers. I replaced the old photos with new ones (double and single pleasers). The burger here is great, but I was disappointed in its size. It looked way bigger in videos and promo pics. It also barely had any onions. I could’ve eaten two of them and this was a double.

Patty Please provides the burgers at Small Bar; which I think is kinda bigger than its namesake. There is also an outdoor patio, all with big screen tvs tuned to local sport.

Their smashburger is truly incredible. Ordered the classic double (easy mayo, no ketchup) cheeseburger with a fried egg; added fries on the side. The smashburger was cooked perfectly on the griddle with crispy edges on patties that was sizabley larger than the bun. The ratio of meat to bun was just right. The salty, skinny fries complimented the unctuous beef.

The staff and team was friendly and welcoming! Open late for the night owls, a definite stop to power up before calling...
