The food and our waitress (Cassandra) were both great, but Manager Nick was a very immature, rude, _, (feel free to fill in the blank with your favorite curse word), which dampened our overall experience.
He argued with me about immediate seating but I explained that the last member of our party was arriving on the train and would be there momentarily. He said no, that the policy was that the entire party needed to be there and he didn't want to seat me because the place was filling up. Since this location is in the Ogilvie Transportation Building, it would be a matter of a few minutes until she arrived. I then explained that I had tickets to the opera and didn't want to miss out on a table waiting for my daughter to arrive and that we would order drinks right away. He said NO. I explained that I was with my elderly mother and didn't want to make her stand and wait, he said NO. So I said, "OK, fine. We only have three in our party." He said, "Oh really? So when your daughter comes, you don't want me to tell her you're here?" I was like, "What? Why are you giving me such a hard time about this?" Finally he said, "FINE!" and stormed off with menus, so we followed. Embarrassingly, he slammed the four menus on the table, making the patrons around us look up, and then stomped off in anger. WTH? Nice Mother's Day greeting we got....
Incidentally, I don't think it's a very good impression to have people, much less a manager!, greet you with a baseball hat on backwards. Does not seem professional or clean for a breakfast place. I'm not sure I understand the policy about not seating people if you're going to order drinks while you wait and the members...
Read moreIn all honesty I would give this place a zero for the disrespect we received but the lowest it’ll allow you to rate is a 1. The food was basic and super highly priced, way way overpriced, and the service was horrible. I’ve eaten at many breakfast places but none have been so terrible. The food wasn’t anything special, and at that they didn’t even come to give us the check after about 30 minutes. Didn’t check on us at all, forgot many things, took very long and they weren’t even that busy. When we came up to the front after waiting for so long for the check, we not only received an attitude but a longer wait. For another 10 minutes. And then when we tried to say something, we were yelled at and talked to in a very loud stern tone from the employees. One of the girls got super upset, but we were only trying to pay for our meal? In what way does this even follow “the customer is always right”?. The only nice thing is that after we said we couldn’t wait much longer because our parking was expiring one employee said they’d take care of it. Their things to pay were also down. And I suppose another positive is that it was pretty clean and well furnished. Other than that, it was so time consuming and I won’t be coming back. So yes to sum it up, the food, service, and overall vibe was...
Read moreExcellent breakfast in a nice, clean environment with friendly service that goes above and beyond. Prices may seem high, but portions are large enough to share and doing so makes the prices look quite reasonable. The staff didn't bat an eye when we chose to do this and even brought us an extra plate for no additional charge. Drinks include refills and they even offered us extra refills to-go! (My cynical side wonders if that was a subtle ploy to encourage us to move along and free up a table, but they weren't especially busy at the time and, honestly, even if it was, free bonus drinks are one heck of a customer-friendly way of doing that.)
I will say that the 5 egg omlet was not quite as big as we expected -- I don't doubt that they use 5, but I suspect they use small eggs -- but with the potatoes and pancakes, it still proved filling enough for two people with hearty appetites. Personally, I wasn't overly impressed with the pancakes; I prefer them fluffy, and these were dense, a bit dry, and had an almost gritty texture -- but they were actually better than that description makes them sound, and I suspect this will be a matter of...
