I go here from time to time. I decided to order the Greek salad with Kalamata olives on it because it sounded good. Well I got my salad and took a bite. It felt like I bit a rock. Two of my teeth hurt as did my jaw. I pulled the hard item out of my mouth to find that it was an olive. I found it strange that an olive would still have a pit in it. I thought maybe it was a fluke. I continued to eat. It happened again. This made my salad inedible. I talked to the manager about it when I also mentioned another issue with another plate. Anyway the manager argued with me that having pits in the olive made them greek olives. I have pitted greek Kalamata olives in my pantry. I eat them often as I eat a mostly greek food these days. When I pointed out that this explanation was incorrect she said she told corporate many times that they needed pitted olives but corporate refused due to the fact that they insisted on having greek olives in their salad. There wasn't any point in arguing anymore because you can't make people understand when they refuse to listen and are in a mood to argue. This experience is frustrating! My server was amazing! She was the only good experience about the whole meal.
Edited to add that she in fact told me that the corporate higher ups are committed to using whole olives. She said she has mentioned many times that she's tried to talk them into changing to pitted and says that you insist on using the whole olives because that's the only way that you can get greek olives. There were a lot of untrue statements coming from your manager. It is easier to eat pitted olives and you don't have to rudely spit out a pit or 8 in public. Those are inedible and you then have to pick around your salad to pick those out. I'm sorry but when I get a salad I want to eat it. I don't want to have to deconstruct it to avoid a dental injury. It has several ingredients mixed together. The point of that is so that you can experience all of the flavors together in a one bite experience. Large pieces of food or inedible food product makes it hard. I'm sure that it has worked out fine until now. It's also good to listen to customer feedback about their authentic experience and update practices as a problem arises. I've seen a lot of stores that are going out of business because they didn't update their store to suit the consumers needs who spend, or don't spend, their money there. This is the first time I had an issue at the West Lafayette location. I started going there instead of the Lafayette location because service issues drove me away from Lafayette. They couldn't get an order right to save their lives. This was the first time that I tried something new in West Lafayette. I was very disappointed. If someone happens to break a tooth on a pit you're looking at a potential lawsuit. People don't want to pick around the olives and then spit out pits. A simple change can keep your...
Read moreVisited Saturday early evening before 'the rush'. This place for a couple years was always busy when we wanted to visit so this was our first, seemed very quiet at 5:30pm which seemed unusual but filled an hour later but no real waiting line. Wide variety of sandwiches, some seafood, pasta, breakfast foods but sparse on wine/beer. This seems to be a local family restaurant, was expecting more campus visitors. Waitress was really 'perky' throughout and good eye contact (which is lacking at most restaurants) but as usual a curt rushed 'bye' as the $ was picked up. So a 9/10 on the service, not 10. As for the food - it was ok but not the best we've ever had. Fish tacos - too spicy. Hamburger - ok but not gourmet. pulled pork sandwich resembled brisket from my view, and patron said it seemed like it was 'fresh frozen' not scratch cooked. Liver 2 pieces one was okay the other overcooked/dry. Onions undercooked, zero flavor. Came on a plate with a lot of liquid/juice so maybe trying to keep it moist, but that's the first restaurant that tried to turn liver into a swimmer. Had a side salad which was more volume and romaine not iceberg lettuce so good. Well, we would visit again because the place is a little different and the service staff seemed better than normal but not a place to impress a date. My guess is the food is good but not great. I do like that most of the seating are booths. I have some negative comments about the men's bathroom as to planning and equipment that bugged me (I shouldn't leave feeling less clean than I went in) so this area just had little thought as to cleanliness of surfaces, splashy equipment. In other words, opportunity for a lot of germs. But hey, a lot of people wouldn't care about that kind of stuff but this was just sub par in my book. I normally don't mention this aspect in reviews but it...
Read moreI've been meaning to write a review of this place for a while since I practically live off of their food, but today is what finally prompted me to do so.
Apart from the diverse, AMAZING food, and the cozy and cool sort of Greek-American aesthetic of the place, I have never once encountered any bad service here. Even when the place is packed (rightfully so) I am served pretty quickly and the food never suffers. I have been working in food service since I was 15 and I've been everything from a dishwasher to a server to a line cook, and I know how chaotic it can be. I also cannot eat red meat, and I often feel annoying having to request no red meat on my food, but nobody here makes me feel like a burden for asking like some other places do.
Today, however, made me tear up because of how nice they were. I've been silently experiencing some health issues and struggling quite a bit, and today after an ER visit I was starving and couldn't get myself to cook. I came here as usual, and I was pretty visibly sad and snotty-nosed. I could tell the staff noticed, but they didn't make me feel bad or embarrassed about it. When I got home, I looked and saw that somebody (I think it was the younger pretty brunette girl who works the register, I'm sorry I don't know her name) had written on my takeout box a note about having a great day. I had actually been thinking to myself all day, "I don't think anyone cares about me," because of the struggles with my health and this message made me feel just the opposite.
I can't recommend this place enough, and please please try the hot chocolate here. It's the best I've had...
