UPDATE: These are my thoughts after the owner/manager responded to my post. The manager would like you to think we were a "cheap table" unworthy of quality food or evening. She says we were a table of over 10 people and made it seem like we only ordered hummus and dessert. We were 6 adults, 3 eight year olds and one baby who fell asleep in the stroller after 5 minutes after arriving. They did not have a childrens menu but wanted us to order an adult meal of $25 for my 8 year old. How ridiculous. So we each ordered on of the most expensive menu items and shared a little bit with our kids. Oh and by the way the mixed grill plate which cost $50 consisted mainly of ground lamb and ground beef kafta...the cheapest meat that they could serve. There were three small pieces of chicken breast and 2 pieces of steak. Yes, I expected more. But now that I see the owners comments, I realize she only sees each table as making as much money as possible. We ordered the most expensive dinner, the most expensive appetizer and each adult ordered a dessert. I guess if you are not going to drop $25 on a plate on an eight year old, you just are not wanted in their restaurant. Also the fact they do not care that both my husband were up all night with stomach issues after eating their food also tells you so much about their business. For what its worth, its in a "up and coming" area, not Palm Beach. At least I would expect overpriced ok food there. *
This place is not great. Very surprised that they have such good reviews. I love Turkish food and this place is just sub par at best and very expensive. A hummus platter for for the table $28...it included 4 bowls of hummus and some pita bread. They gave us barely enough pita for one or two bites of hummus. We literally had to beg for pita every few minutes. The main course was ok. I ordered the rice pudding for dessert and it was not great and my husband had a baked apple. Also not great. Really disappointing dinner.
The worst part was that we ended up with stomach issues all night.
The positives are the red pepper/feta hummus is excellent. The decor...
Read moreThis place is a hidden gem nestled in a quaint West Palm Beach district on Dixie Highway. Come hungry, because you are in for a treat! This was my first visit, and the staff was so very accommodating. I was by myself and sat at the bar, where I witnessed the passion and detail they put into their food preparation. They clearly take pride in their Turkish heritage and strive to please their guests with the ultimate experience.
Gary helped me with the selections and explained how each item was prepared. I started with their famous zucchini pancakes--a MUST try for your first visit!!! Made from scratch with fresh herbs (with an amazing hint of tarragon) and the finest ingredients, these deep fried nibblers and accompanying refreshing yogurt sauce will have you in love at first sight!
I also got the hummus and eggplant salad--which had a mild smoky taste and smooth texture that will tantalize your taste buds! I highly recommend the zucchini pancakes and assortment of samplers for starters.
Next, we turned to the main dish selection. I was in the mood for lamb, so Gary recommended either the eggplant and lamb kabob or Beyti. The kabob dish is ground grilled lamb wrapped in eggplant, topped with a delicious tomato base sauce and cheese. Fabulous! Next time, I think I'll try the grilled octopus or red snapper en papillote. One of their guys was eating a beef burger at the bar and told me how incredibly delicious it was. In other words, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu!
I gave this rating 5 stars because this is known as one of the BEST of the BEST of mediterranean food and service not only here on the Palm Coast, but in the world! Prices are very reasonable and just right for the quality--you get what you pay for.
If you want a full experience of both phenomenal food and most attentive service, please try and come in before the peak rush (before 6:30 p.m.). It can get very busy weekend nights, so please be mindful and understanding of that (better yet, they gladly accommodate reservations). I can't wait...
Read moreThe service & atmosphere were amazing. Everyone was very friendly.
We frequented Agora when it was a cafe/supermarket and loved the food. This was our first time trying since it reopened as a restaurant, since we left the neighbourhood & the food was a disappointing hit and miss.
For instance, the lentil soup was fantastic & the grape leaves which used to be my favorite from Agora were lacking. Not much flavor & the rice was mushy. I actually only ate one & took the rest to go.
The most disappointing food item was the lamb chop special.
This is a restaurant that specializes in grilling yet, the chops were individually sliced prior to cooking, making medium rare temp impossible to do without leaving the outside grey in color & not allowing the grill flavor to come through. It was a generous portion, 8 chops & the grilled veggies were quite nice.
The sad part is, my guy rarely gets an oppportunity to have lamb as I am ethically not a fan & I was just disappointed for him. His reason for not saying anything is he felt it was a culinary choice & what could be done differently? Perhaps the next server will explain this to the patrons, to give them the chance to have another option.
Honestly, the only thing that was really exceptional was the homemade Limoncello & Baklava. It's worth a trip for the dessert.
I don't know..it hurts me not leave a fantastic review based on our previous history with Agora. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 3. Maybe it was an off night but we spent well over $100 for 2 people before tip, at a place with no liquor and there's just too many other options to risk it again for dinner.
I'm sorry Agorra. We really used...
