If you are 65 and up, it can get busy for that age range at night. It is known for being the "silver-back" restaurant. If you can get inside the small piano room, which is the only place you can hear the music really, it has some entertainment. Some people do not like that because it gets hot and sweaty and more night club for older people. It is a much older crowd. The rest of the restaurant is non-eventful. So, it depends on what you are looking for. Moderate food for Italian. Just average. This place is more for if you can get in that piano area. No one brags about the food. Empty during the day, so ambiance is limited. Pretty non-eventful outside seating day and night, since the food is average. Dangerous peripheral neighborhoods on all sides of entrance. Just be careful- high crime area.
Poor customer service: Person who answers phone is not nice or customer-service oriented at all. She talks to you like the soup guy from Seinfeld. There is not a warm feeling at all.
They repeat a lot how busy they are, and so they have a strong arrogance. You are not valued.
Be very careful, they will give your table away in a heart-beat! Here is the latest with what they did- our final attempt to enjoy this restaurant. There are other piano gigs now at other places.
On September 10th we called and made a reservation for birthday party two months in advance for November. It was made clear during the reservation that it was a birthday. Never once did they say they would give the reservation away without confirmation.
So, the day before the reservation- they called and did not leave a message to confirm. This was Black Friday- the day after Thanksgiving and I had guests in town etc and never saw a message and did not get a call. My apologies. This is a very busy day.
It was Thanksgiving week, so I did not think to call them (as I had a solid reservation).
Anyway, we called to ask a question (all ready to go out the door) and the lady answered and told us she gave our reservation away.
At first she pretended not to recognize our names and acted like she had no idea that I had a reservation. She made me list two names and still said she did not see us on the list , then finally admitted she gave it away. She was rude, had zero concern that it was a birthday party- and let me tell you...it was weird. It was like she almost enjoyed telling us no. She was THAT cold about it.
Then, another person in our party wanted to speak to a manager. All the management repeated was they are a busy restaurant and sorry. They have to keep their tables full. They just kept saying that- sorry about your luck. They never said let's see what we can do or anything. The strange part is if they are THAT busy, they could have filled that spot so easily if a no show came. They gave it away so easily. Truly busy means quick filled spot.
Also, they never told me my reservation was contingent on confirmation. A reservation should be solid unless otherwise noted.
I understand that it is important they fill their tables, but the arrogance and rudeness was pretty much obvious. Literally, this was our birthday party.
I even offered to reduce the size of our party and explained it was that important to us.
I repeated over and over that it was a birthday and if they could still fit us in somewhere because the piano thing was what was the reason we were going and they just coldly refused. They never said let us see what we can do- nothing.
They were not concerned and did not feel bad even one bit about the human side or show any concern in tone. I was actually pretty blown away (the lady who makes reservations is the worst customer service person I have experienced on numerous occasions).
So, make sure you understand they are tough on you if you don't answer a phone (even during holiday). They will not hold reservations for you, and they will repeat over and over they are great and busy, and are not concerned about you.
If anything, my review will help you keep your reservations and not ruin an...
Read moreMy wife and I went earlier this afternoon to Cafe centro I was greeted at the bar with, I'm sorry those two bar stools are reserved. At that point the barmaid suggested I sit at a table. I would have left but my wife decided we were going to sit at the table. Once we seated ourselves at the table, I was greeted by a waiter that said the table is reserved, at which point I grabbed my wife añd we hightailed it out of there. I remember the original owner before they chopped it into three restaurants. It was good then. I must say, considering that was the only place open in Northwood everything else was closed except for one other restaurant which is where I went. We had a lovely dinner and wonderful wine selection. You can skip that Cafe Centro unless you need to be part of a click. I was going to post something such as free drinks between 5:00 and 9:00 for anyone between the ages of 21 and 29, but decided I'd be honest and give the review that they deserve. Never in my life have I ever been treated so rudely as I was when I walked into Cafe Centro. Never was I asked how long I'll be there, never was I asked if I would like to be seated at another table. Never was I asked if I took that one restaurant and chopped it into three so that the owner could benefit with the green. I get it. Northwood the only reason I went to Cafe Central was because every other place was closed. I will go out of my way to make sure that no one else has the same experience that I did in front of my wife. Being in the restaurant equipment business, I can tell you their kitchen is nothing to write home about do yourself a favor go someplace you're a little more appreciated agora is a far better restaurant than El Centro...
Read moreLast Saturday I came to cafe Centro just to listen to some music and have drink. I ordered a Gingerale, when I got my bill, I couldn’t make it out so I asked one of my friends what’s this eight dollars and she told me yes. it was kind of darkness so really couldn’t get it a clear picture of the bill, so I asked the bartender why is the soda $8 his respond because it’s a slow night, which was a lot of people there that night. so I request for my money back from the manager. So I decided to go across the street to get me a Gingerale while my friend waited over there with her drink. she stayed a little bit and I decided to stay a little bit longer at the bar talking to my cousin. One of the managers came over to me and say that I’m sorry miss, but you cannot keep a drink from another establishment over here. I told him that I was sorry and I’ll drink it real fast and then I’m going to leave. two seconds later Sal the other manager came over to me screaming at me saying that I need to go. I need to go with allow pitch Voice in front of all the customers at the bar. I was very embarrassed. I called them back over there and say what is wrong with you I said I told you that I was sorry. he told me I was cheap and I needed to go. which I spent $60 the week prior.
