Chef David's Pizza & More — Restaurant in West Reading

8/1/25 Ordered dinner on the Slice app. Texas fries are fine, Caesar salad was fine, but they have listed beef Empanadas but they gave us chicken and the "Denzel Washington" cheesesteak is poor quality. There were several issues with the cheesesteak that the manager simply did not want to hear when I tried to resolve things over the phone, stating "We know we have great cheesesteaks and all you want to do is complain". I tried to convey that the sandwich was half unwrapped, the roll was hard on the exposed end, and the meat was massively overcooked and was devoid of any cheese or tomato sauce (I chose beef steak with sauce and extra cheese) and there was also no sausage as listed. You can literally flick the meat and hear an audible clunk. The man I spoke to was incredibly rude on the phone, saying he called 15 times to tell us about the empanada issue (phone didn't ring once and I verified the number myself) and claimed he rang the bell 4 or 5 times (he didn't). When I tried to explain to him what all exactly was the entire breadth of the issues he kept going on about the stupid empanadas, talking over me constantly. He seemed to be quite triggered over the fact that someone told him that the sandwich was just not good that when I attempted to tell him he snapped at me, saying he was going to refund the sandwich saying that I, specifically, complain all the time (this was our first time getting anything from them) and then he hung up on me. The guy is overly prideful to a severe fault and can't take any criticism. I will not patronize this establishment ever again, not with pathetic attitudes like that. I will say that the girl who answered the phone was very nice though. I hope she finds somewhere nicer to work. Michelangelo’s Pizzeria, 500 Penn Ave., West Reading, Jan. 10: 10 violations. The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate control of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Time in lieu of temperature being used as a control for potentially hazardous foods (pizza pies), but the facility does not have written documentation to verify food is discarded within 4 hours. There is still a build-up of food residue and other debris on surfaces throughout the facility (floor under/around equipment in both the front and back areas, including in the walk-in cooler). A utility sink or curbed cleaning facility with a floor drain is not provided in the food facility. The mop sink has been removed from the closet in the restroom. Several floor tiles in the back area are cracked and are no longer easily cleanable. The outer door located in the restroom of the food facility has a gap at the bottom and does not protect against the entry of pests. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the restroom. The handwash sink in the back area still does not have single use towels, continuous towels, or air-drying device.

Food facility inspection still indicates evidence of rodent/insect activity in the back area around the dough mixer, under equipment, and along the wall of the walk-in cooler. Rodent droppings were observed in this area.

A live cockroach was observed near the walk-in cooler, as well as others stuck to glue boards.

Facility has proof that a pest control company did provide service. The frequency of service may need to be increased. Mops are still not being hung to air dry. Observed a mop stored in a bucket of dirty water. A working container of cleaner was stored next to the slicer and an in-use box of plastic wrap on a food preparation table in the back area. Out...

The pizza I ordered fresh it was pretty good!! My only issue was there were three employees there on the late night cool! One guy went outside came back in with frozen bag of food for cooking bag in one hand phone in other put bag on counter then out his phone on counter where he was previously making another order! Continued to complete order( didn’t wash hands) ! 2nd guy takes my order gives order to guy # 1 who was now putting frozen beef patties on grill he turns around started to reach in cooler for pizza dough n I asked him are you going to wash your hands you just touched that beef and several other items including your personal phone! He goes oh yeah! Goes in back comes out hands wet but not sure what or where if he washed them! Out of all three employees no one washed there hands at all in between transactions except one after being asked!!! No gloves no where in site! 2nd visit had to add to this one would not let me leave a second review! Went back after maybe 2months to give it another try same shit! This time they were unloading merch from van placed my order watch dude put down case of tomatoes go straight in freezer pull out chicken for my order n put on grill once again no gloves no washing of hands. I really liked this spot guess it went down when changed owners! Never again yall need to get it together n fast! How you on fb dancing making videos with gloves on but don’t use them to cook your customers food! Let’s not talk about the owner outside holding a dog on a leash hope he washed his hands!
