I went here for dinner Friday evening. We were seated right away. I had the roast beef with a garden salad and green beans and mashed potatoes with brown gravy. The salad was a fresh generous salad with blue cheese dressing. The main entree came right away, no long wait. It also came with hot, moist cornbread muffins. They were so soft and hot. Most of the time when you order cornbread in Utah, the muffins are dry and dense. These were perfect. The green beans were delicious. The veggies with the roast were - large pieces of carrots, onion, celery, mushrooms with a gravy sauce. They still make roast the way roast is meant to be made- country style. No skimping on the veggies! And the meat was quite generous whole pieces that just melt in your mouth tender! The sweet tea was fresh and dark and delicious as usual. The waitress was very polite and great! The restaurant is very cute in its decor. Bears everywhere! And very clean. The bathrooms were spotless. I will definitely return to this location! Very nice if you want a delicious, relaxing, comforting, country style meal.

From start to finish, it was a bad dining experience, mostly due to poor service from our waitress S.L. Food was good, service not so good. 1. The table we sat at was dirty (Coffee spills, hot sauce and egg on the table), the floor below was also dirty. My husband asked the waitress if we could get something to wipe the table, she handed us a washcloth and we wiped it ourselves. 2. The Dinner I ordered, comes with two sides, I was never asked what I wanted with it. She never offered any sauces for my hubbys fries. She never asked if he wanted a refill. 3. The food came after like a 30 minute wait. I asked the waitress where the soup was that came with it, she said “Oh, sorry we just ran out. We have salad?” “I said sure I’ll have that.” She confirmed she was bringing it and asked if I wanted ranch, I said yes. My husband also asked for a drink refill. We had to ask for sauce for his fries. 4. She came back to our table, a few minutes later and said, sorry that’s the wrong plate, did you touch it? I said I put black pepper on it. She grabbed it and gave to the correct customer. Smh! 5. She never brought the damn salad or the soda refill at all. Just kept walking past our table. I looked across from us, another couple never got any beverage at all and had been waiting at least 15 mins. 6. After getting fed up waiting another 15 mins for a damn refill and the salad. I took matters into my own hands, got up, the waitress said bye, and I said, “What do you mean bye? We never got our check yet and I’m getting a refill that we have been waiting on!” I walked a few steps around the corner and asked the other employee for a refill. This literally took me less than one minute. 7. I asked her for the check and told her that she better remove the salad that we never got. 8. Sadly, with that poor quality of service, we did not tip her at all. I would have but her effort was lacking badly. Typically we tip well for good service. We paid full price. I usually am more patient but this was really a frustrating experience. I love black bear diner but to me the service made it hard to enjoy. After I posted this I read similar reviews that are the same issues = poor service, dirty tables & floors. Management needs to step it up. This place is giving the black bear diner brand a bad rep.

I've never had a problem with Black Bear, my family has always come to this place but for some reason, their customer service has recently gone downhill. I normally don't post reviews but I'm fed up with not getting my issue resolved. My son wanted to come here for his birthday breakfast so we came here on 1/8/22. I decided to use the online pay that was on the receipt but was charged TWICE. I've called them multiple times before and was told they were working on getting my money back and it's now 1/25/22, I still don't have the $56.88 refunded. I just called again today and was asked to wait on hold until they went to get the manager. I was on the phone for over 10 mins and nobody bothered to answer. On top of that, my grandmother in law and father in law's orders were extremely overcooked/burned. We waited for the waitress to come back so we could let her know but we didn't see her until AFTER we were all done eating. Even after the horrible service, we still tipped the waitress a generous amount too. If you want to eat at Black Bear, avoid this place -- go to a different location where they will treat you like an actual human being.

Went to the Black Bear Diner in Colorado Springs recently for breakfast and it was the best breakfast I have had! Stopped at this Black Bear Restaurant in SLC today before a flight home and ordered the exact same thing…. Whoa… very disappointing to get a stale breakfast at 1115 on a weekday. Eggs were fine but the Biscuit was hard and stale, the bacon old and crumbly, and the hash browns tasted like paper. As I sat at the counter eating it I googled this business and was amazed to learn how big it was… 161 locations in 13 states and they want to grow to 800 locations. And I thought from reading the placemat that the founders Bruce and Bob still had their hands in the business. Probably not … lol. I am sure the cooks are great but a manager needs to make sure the food is fresh going to a customer. They were not busy. They may need to focus on their quality control corporate/franchise wide… I probably won’t be eager to go to any more Black Bear locations in the other 11 states now unfortunately.
