Apple Annie's - Morgantown
We spent the week at Cheat Lake, watching grandchildren while their parents had a "fun in the sun" mini vacation.
Upon our return this morning, we were looking for a good breakfast spot nearby. We opted for Apple-Annies, just off the Pierpont Rd. exit. It was our first visit and were pleasantly pleased with their breakfast choices, as well as their bakery.
My wife chose the pancake meal and I had the veggie omellette. The pancakes were about 10" in diameter, and cooked just right with real maple syrup on the side. My omellette was equally delicious chocked full of veggies and mozzarella cheese with sides of hash browns and toast. We could not have been happier with our meals! I told the owner they reminded me a lot of First Watch, only better.
Our waitress was great, providing everything we could have desired, plus some.
Now, the good part, they are also a full service bakery. After we finished our meals, we browsed thru their Very Large selection of pastries, cupcakes, pies, cakes, cookies, doughnuts, pep rolls, etc. We resisted our huge temptations, and only got a cookie each. I had a triple chocolate chip cookie and my wife the white chocolate cranberry cookie. We got into the car and realized the kind server gave us a FREE sample chocolate chip cookie as well. What a display of cookies they had in the case. They were stacked atop each other and were likely 2 ft tall. I would guess there were at least 20 dozen of each of 8-10 different flavors. That 8 ft long case was overloaded with stacks and stacks of cookies of every variety.
Back to the sample... we decided to split 1 cookie as we were driving through Clarksburg..... OMG, this has got to be the best cookie I have EVER had. It was soft, moist, chewy, and absolutely heavenly. Had we tasted the cookie before leaving Morgantown, we would have turned around and bought a couple of dozen for the freezer.
For those that like Crumbl cookies, you had better try Apple Annie's if you...
Read moreGone downhill and very disappointing. I've enjoyed any number of meals or desserts from this place, but lately the cakes are just impressive looking but artificial-flavor-tasting or painfully-seet-wthout-flavor disappointments. Service is often slow, but has been getting worse. Today, stopped in to have coffee and dessert. The waitress said they couldn't do espresso/cappuccino due to some intermittent power outages, but that they had regular drip coffee. We ordered coffee, cake, and pie. We were brought mugs of old room temperature drip coffee. Not even a little bit warm. Honestly, if you can't serve fresh hot coffee, just say so. Being served cold leftover coffee is insulting and gross. How could a person pick up mugs of coffee and not notice they aren't warm then give them to customers? The "butterscotch" cream pie had no butterscotch flavoring in it. It was in fact vanilla. There was a tiny drizzle of something toffee-like on top the meringue, and that was it. The crust was a soggy mess. The "lemon cream cake" had no lemon flavor in the cake. It also had no vanilla flavor in it. The cake was dense and slightly tough. The actual layers of cake just tasted floury, but were drowned in massive amounts of icing that tasted strongly of artificial lemon flavoring. I've made many scratch lemon cakes, and you can easily tell the flavor of actual lemon juice and lemon zest from a fresh lemon. There was none here; only the also easily recognizable flavor of bottled artificial lemon. So, we got cold leftover coffee, butterscotch pie without butterscotch, and lemon cake with no lemon. Huge disappointment. You can get better cake at any grocery store in town, or from most cake mixes. It was definitely nowhere in the league of a real homemade cake or pie, which for the prices we paid was super disappointing and doesn't live up to the past quality of this place. Wont be back for a while, to give them time to hopefully resolve...

(10) ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ Well done, ya'll.
This restaurant is a dying breed. And I was IMMENSELY impressed they had retained a staff that KNOW how to serve. I have never been accommodated by ANY restaurant as well as they did. I asked the waitress what she suggested I do because I wanted to try all of it. She said she'd speak with the kitchen...boy did they come through!
I fell in love with the Buckwheat Pancakes, the Traditional Pancakes were typical, French Toast executed to perfection, Eggs expertly cooked to order, and bacon was lovely but overkill by the end (I did eat it cuz, hey... bacon, duh) but the show stopper... Biscuits and Gravy!!!!
I have always been wierded out by folks putting Tobasco sauce on their B&G. As of today, I have "seen the light" with adding a bit of heat to the gravy... Good Lord, has surely blessed the mastermind behind this recipe. I hate hot or spicy food... THIS was phenomenal and I enjoyed every delectable bit of my biscut with some very sensational gravy smothering it. Even thogh it was a bit hot and spicy.
So... after reading this get going and eat there already. What part are you unsure of? FOMO a major good meal.
Oh, I also noticed how clean everything on the walls and shelves were... lots there to check...
