I recently visited DiCarlo's Pizza, eager to try the Ohio Valley's well-known pizza style, but unfortunately, the experience was far from satisfying. Despite its reputation, DiCarlo's did not live up to the hype.
The first thing that threw me off was the way they prepare their pizza. The crust and sauce are baked first, and then cold cheese and toppings are added afterward. While I understand this is their signature style, it left me disappointed. The cheese was barely melted, and the toppings seemed like an afterthought. The combination of hot crust and cool toppings just didn't work for me—it felt unfinished and lacked the cohesion you expect from a good pizza.
The crust, which some people rave about, was another letdown. It was overly crispy and dry, almost like eating a cracker rather than a proper pizza crust. There was no softness or chewiness to balance it out, making each bite a bit of a chore to get through. The sauce was bland and didn't add much to the overall...
Read moreAte at DiCarlo’s Pizza in Triadelphia, WV for the first time, in November 2023, while visiting nearby Cabela’s. The pizza was great! However, the location was confusing, as it is located in a plaza that requires you to go one way around a circle.
Also, some of the photos posted in the Google Maps entry and reviews show an entirely different restaurant. There is no indoor eating at the Triadelphia location. Instead, it is a very small carry-out. Thankfully it was a nice day, and there are picnic tables across the parking lot.
There are also NO restrooms available for patrons, and that is posted on their door. Not good for traveling customers.
One of the employees appeared to be high or really out of it. I observed him smoking something outside the business’ doors after I had left. However, he did get the job done.
Being a longtime fan of Ohio Valley style pizza, I was happy to be able to eat some while in the area. I definitely recommend this very unique...
Read moreThis is a hometown must have when we go to visit or passing thru on business. Dallas Pike location is really good right now. Crust was a little thin than what I like it, BUT it had that wonderful crunch to it that it should have. Been reading reviews and they also got the sauce right! Just the right amount. The cheese.... now it you are not from the locale you are not going to understand that the cheese is not baked on the pizza but added after it comes out of the oven and is cut. It is a special cheese made to melt quickly and easily. That traditionally is the way of this pizza being made. So if that freaks you out ask to have yours melted in the oven. They will do that. I don't recommend it but to each their own. This is a great family owned and franchised business that has been around a long time. Yes the ways might be different but it's...
