If you're visiting Gardiner, MT—right at the doorstep of Yellowstone National Park—you cannot miss Wonderland Cafe and Lodge. This charming restaurant is a must-visit, offering an incredible dining experience in an equally incredible location. Parking: There's free street parking available, making it easy to access even during busy tourist seasons. Ambiance: Wonderland Cafe boasts a spacious interior with plenty of seating, including spots at the bar. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, featuring artwork and photos of bison and Yellowstone landscapes, giving the space a local and rustic charm that perfectly complements its surroundings. Food: The food is fantastic and a standout for the area. I started with two appetizers: 1. Totchos – These were, without a doubt, the best tater tots I've ever had. Crispy, flavorful, and just the right amount of indulgence. 2. Jalapeno Cornbread – A truly unique dish. The sweetness of the cornbread perfectly balanced with the spicy kick of jalapeno. I've never had anything like it! For the main course, I tried their special veggie burger, which was an absolute show-stopper. It’s a perfect choice for vegetarians, though the menu does have somewhat limited veggie options overall (the salad is another option). Despite that, the quality of the dishes more than makes up for it. Overall: Wonderland Cafe and Lodge is an amazing spot nestled in a quaint, picturesque town surrounded by mountains. Whether you’re stopping by before or after your Yellowstone adventure, the food and atmosphere here will not disappoint. Highly recommend!

“Exceeded expectations” — my hard-to-please husband. He wanted to go for the local brews, and chose the hard cherry cider and scotch ale. Both were 10/10, great for a hot summer day. We split 2 kids Mac and cheeses between our 3 children ($11 each) and the portions could have been more generous. It was tasty, my children scarfed it down so we gave them our fries after that. Both my husband and I got burgers and paid to upgrade to the Bison Patty. I chose the Montana and he chose the Caldera. Incredible. Delicious. He wouldn’t let me taste the burger he chose but mine was mi d blowing. The BBQ with jam sauce and cheddar cheese will live on in my memory for a very long time and all other burgers will now to need measure up. We got there about 5:15 (45 minutes after opening) and the place was already full with a 30 minute wait for inside seating. We were able to sit outside in the shade immediately so we chose that. It was still pretty warm (mid-July) as the sun shines on the wall of the courtyard opposite the seating, so consider making a reservation for earlier or coming after 6ish in the summer. Family friendly, but I would say it was a nicer dining experience. Interior was very curated and lovely and cool. I am sure indoor seating would have been lovely. Our waitress was very sweet too.

I have tried a couple places in Gardiner, and I think this is the best restaurant in town. Also probably why there is always a 30+ mins wait Food is amazing. I have one of the best burger here, one of the best cornbread here and one of the best sandwich here. Try the wonderland burger. Plenty of places sell bison burger or regular beef burger, but here, the basil aioli that chef Rachel made, make a difference than regular burger you get from a restaurant or tavern. People usually get burgers or bison ravioli for dinner. Not much difference than beef ravioli but leaner, which is healthier I guess. BLTA sandwich has a couple thick strip of local crispy bacon, just wonderful Everything we had was good. Beside their fries which was hard, chipotle dipping sauce help saved it. Also fried pickles are nothing special. Good job by the kitchen staff and Chef Rachel to create this menu. Service can be slow depending who your waitress is or what day you walk in.

PLEASE LOOK AT YOUR BANKING WHEN USING A CREDIT CARD OR DEBIT CARD AT THIS RESTAURANT!! Over a month ago my husband and I went to the Wonderland Cafe for breakfast. Our experience there was fine except that we were overcharged! On our receipt was the cost of our food, the resort tax, and the credit card fee. We left a generous 20% tip and signed our receipt. Two days later I noticed that the Wonderland Cafe charged our credit card an additional 16% on top of the food, resort fee, credit card fee, and the 20% tip. We did not authorize this amount! This is literally called stealing! What is the point of signing a receipt anyway. I messaged Wonderland Cafe at wordpress@wonderlandcafeandlodge.com telling them that they overcharged us. Stacey Orsted responded by saying "My apologies" (same comment as the other bad reviews) and that this is not right and she would look into it. She also said that someone must have pushed in the wrong amount. If it was an accident....fine, fix it! It's been 5 weeks now and she has NOT fixed it. She said she would send a check weeks ago and I have not received one. I emailed her about this and asked her to verify my address and I have not heard from her. I am documenting all communication that I have attempted and her responses (when she does respond). I have emailed her multiple times and I called and left a message but no one will call back. I have left my phone number many times in the emails and still she does not respond. I understand that people are busy....I am busy...but when someone takes money from you they need to return it. I have read quite a few reviews on this restaurant and Stacey seems to always respond with "My apologies" like she did me, but she does not fix it. I also noticed that she tells customers who have posted a review that they should have called her or emailed. She is terrible at communication! Believe me, I have proof. She does seem to respond promptly to these reviews though. All I want is my money back! Weeks ago I did tell her that I was going to post a review to warn other tourists to just look at the bank charges to be sure they are not being overcharged. I have purposely been waiting to post to give her time to correct this problem, but she has not. If she does send me my money back then I will add to this post an update stating so. Stacey....I know you will be reading this and I know you're busy like the rest of us, but please give me my money back. As I've stated in previous emails, out of respect for you and your business, I have waited to write this review, but with no response from you, I feel the need to warn other tourist. Have a blessed evening! :) 9/15/24 @ 9:14pm

Response back: 9-16-24 Thank you for this response Stacey. I did not receive an email from when I stated that I did not receive a check. If the check was returned that would have been nice to know. I sent you a picture of my receipts within the first 3 days. I surely do not feel I have been "overly aggressive". Lol. I just want this taken care of and it has not. The amount does not matter. What matters is that people are not overcharged for something they should not have been. Venmo was not an option in previous emails. I'm sorry you are tired....

I have split reviews. I visited both the restaurant and stayed overnight. Let’s start with the good. The restaurant experience was positive. Just heads up if they’re busy like the night I was there, they won’t take to go orders. It might have been different had I told them we were staying there. But their cornbread was wonderful, and so was the server. The food was good even though I packed part of my order to go. We were exhausted from the hectic day we had had and just needed to go to the hotel room. But no, it is actually an Airbnb-type place. The instructions to get in were not clear that you take a stairwell next to the restaurant where birds roost so you wonder every time you use it if you’re gotta get pooped on. Then, our room not only didnt have sufficient AC, it would flip the breaker every hour or so, but we weren’t told this beforehand and certainly not when we called when we couldn’t turn it on. They wouldn’t talk to us, only text. But they did walk down the hall to flip the break back and afterwards text us that the breaker box was down the hall and offered us a fan. Since we didn’t know this would be an issue all night and not just once, we didn’t think we would need a fan. That’s not forthright at all. Now I know why they hadn’t bothered to cool off the room before we arrived—because they couldn’t. It was hard to sleep in the heat. So by the time we texted for the fan at 10:30pm, we didn’t get a reply. They should’ve warned us. This is minor but still a nuisance when you’re ready to put a kid to bed that the top bunk bed wasn’t fully made up. The flat sheet was folded and placed under the pillow, and the sheet had not just hairs which can happen but there were too many and lint that wasn’t in the other beds. I’m pretty sure it hadn’t been changed because apparently looked like ot was too difficult . It was already so late and we had had a pretty stressful day that this isn’t what we bargained. We should’ve asked for our money back or at least a part of it or to be comped the meal. We stayed here because Frommers recommended it and we’ve always had great experiences with them, but they steered us...

Recently had lunch at this restaurant we chose it due to the good reviews, I am not sure at all why it has good reviews because that certainly wasn’t our experience here. Firstly, there was very few people in the restaurant maybe about six and many empty tables and of course, every restaurant has one table that’s particularly bad, and they usually use this when they don’t have anything else. Well, that’s the table that we were seated at, it was incredibly uncomfortable. It had a pillar that stuck out, and we were just crammed in there, even though there were many tables available. This is the table that we were put at. The man that seated us and waited on us acted as if we were a bother, and sort of just threw things at us. He acted as if he was doing us a favor by even waiting on us, when we finally got our food, which was a BLT, which I will call an LT, one piece of bacon does not make a BLT. We were given a whole sandwich with that was not cut in half. We had planned on sharing it and we had told the waiter we were going to share it and we had to cut the LT with a butter knife, because, of course, our waiter was nowhere to be found, and he certainly would’ve acted like we were asking for the world if we had asked for a sharper knife to cut the sandwich with. But the best part was after we finished eating, and my friend went to the restroom one of the other employees. Another young man was wandering around with a flyswatter smashing flies on the tables. But not to worry, he went and got a dirty washcloth and smeared those flies all over those tables, I would definitely not recommend this restaurant. The food was mediocre at best, and the service was beyond poor and squished flies on the tables, so gross. There are plenty of other places to spend your money and get a decent service and decent food minus the flies...
