The OWNERS response is despicable! Another sign of disrespect! It’s sad when you have to LIE to alter an HONEST REVIEW. The food SMELLED I could barely stomach the taste I had. I asked to exchange YOU REFUSED! You moved my food over to the side while demonstrating that I take it home. I did NOT EAT IT. READ THIS BEFORE GOING! Zero stars should be an option to express how I was treated, to describe the taste of the food I ordered, and my dining experience. On Monday, May 29, 2023 I experienced the WORST service that I have ever had in my life! I arrived famished as I had driven from out of state to meet two of my girlfriends that I had not seen in months for lunch. We had never eaten at this restaurant before, but were excited to meet and dine together. They arrived before me, but placed my order of Pad Thai noodles with chicken and shrimp. I arrived 15 minutes later, but I was ready for a good meal!! However, instead I was disappointed when I noticed a foul odor coming from my plate. Although the smell was not pleasant, I cautiously gave it very small try. I noticed right away the noodles were over cooked. It tasted as bad as it smelled! It was DISGUSTING and the WORST Pad Thai noodles I’d ever eaten. I usually LOVE Thai food especially Pad Thai noodles. I politely asked the waitress if I could please exchange it for something else, I could not eat it. She proceeded to the kitchen to ask, then shortly returned with an uncomfortable smile & firm answer of, “NO we cannot” She offered for me to buy another meal but I’d have to pay for both meals. I asked could it just be removed from my bill? I was still told, NO. The owner came out (once we requested the manager ) and confirmed the answer was NO! She was RUDE and she demanded payment. She continued to snap at me as I gracefully explained that I didn’t like it. I had tried it, & I was willing to pay for another meal, as my two friends had ordered different meals that did not smell & appeared to be appetizing. I’d barely touched my plate (as you can see in the photo it’s a full plate of food.) You may notice the food is shifted to the side that’s not from me eating it, the manager shoved the food to the side as she angrily demonstrated how customers take their plates to go) she said the reason for the unpleasant taste and smell was because my friends ordered it before I came. She suggested I’d wrap it up to go as other customers have done in the past when they didn’t like their meals, and she insisted I still pay regardless of whether I liked it or not. I responded by stating that I refused to argue with her about it. It was as if she wanted to argue. I continued drinking my tea (which was delicious btw) and then the waitress brought out the separate bills. My girlfriends paid for their meals and tipped the waitress, I paid for my tea and tipped the waitress. I reminded the waitress again, I would not be paying for the meal I did not like or eat. The owner came out of the kitchen one last time to yell at me, and said “Next time don’t have your friends order for you!” And I was asked to LEAVE before I finished the tea that I’d paid for! I suggested she take some management training classes so she could acquire the skill to run a restaurant and treat her customers professionally, with respect & kindness. I peacefully left the restaurant as she stormed off back to the kitchen. Her behavior was impulsive & disturbing. We were all completely shocked, and disappointed that we’d chosen this Maya Thai Eatery. I mean let’s be real here, who wants to go to a restaurant where your food is considered “AS IS” whatever is prepared, good or bad, the customers are OBLIGATED to eat it, take it, and pay for it!! No exchanges or refunds. This is not my usual practice. I usually won’t complain a meal unless it’s REALLY BAD. I personally would not recommend anyone I know to go to this restaurant.
Bad BUSINESS!! TERRIBLE...
Read moreWe do not live in few area (we live in NYC) but frequent Maya whenever we are close by. The food is always delicious, and the place is clean and has a good vibe. However, the service leaves a lot to be desired. A LOT! We always felt that the staff were being nice and accommodating because they HAVE to be, and not because they WANT to be, and we have always felt a fake friendly attitude from the staff. But ok, as long as we enjoyed our food we just dealt with the attitude.
HOWEVER, like anything else, there is always that one straw that brakes the camels back, and that straw was last Wednesday night.
They post that they close at 9:00. We arrived at 8:25. We walked in and the hostess looked at us like we were from outer space. We said we like to have a table for dinner. She said "ok, but the kitchen closes in 5 min. We were taken to a table and BEFORE we even sat down she put the menu on the table and asked what we wanted. At that point my husband said "let's go, this is not going to be good, but I told him that we are here so let's just order. The waitress/hostess actually stood at our table telling us to hurry up! So, we decided to order something simple and fast and forego a nice relaxing dinner. We ordered soup, a papaya salad and Thai dumplings. We were there about 10 minutes and they turned the music off, and were more interested in preparing to close than about us. BTW there was another couple a few tables away that seemed to be upset as well. So we got our food all together. The soup was delicious as was the salad, but the Thai dumplings were on the cold side and didn't look fresh and had a foul odor to them. So we had the soup and the salad and left.
It was a very disturbing experience when you are trying to eat dinner while the restaurant is in the process of shutting down. It gave us a sense of being rushed.
We would have rather them tell us we are closed than be rushed. Imagine telling us we close in 5 minutes and having the waitress standing at the table telling us to hurry up????
There surprisingly are several other Thai restaurants in the immediate area we have tried and were always treated with respect, but returned to Maya because of the ambiance. But like I said, there is a breaking point.
We will never return to Maya as they are totally disrespectful and rude, and that is not the way you treat your repeat customers. They need to remember they need us, we...
Read moreI am not normally one to write a not so great experience, because everyone has an off day PLUS this Is a new business in Westfield but I really feel like I had to write something publicly so these folks can change their ways. Its a real shame because the food was really delicious but the service we received was pretty terrible. The waitress was so incredibly rude to the point where she was physically rolling her eyes at us whenever we asked for something. A person I was with actually asked if there was something we did to offend them. Not only that but the entire meal felt so rushed. You go out to enjoy a really nice dining experience but its hard to do that when someone is returning to your table every few minutes asking if you want to order/ trying to clean up your plates as you're finishing a bite. You are also constantly being reminded of the time they are closing which is really frustrating. As you are trying to enjoy dinner (that you are paying for) you are rushing through every bite before someone swings around again and reminds you the kitchen is closing soon. We were also a part of a birthday celebration where we brought a cake to sing with and the woman initially refused for us to eat it without buying two desserts. Not for anything but we were a group of 9 on a Tuesday and ordered the entire menu. I know I sound a bit like a Karen but our entire family has worked in customer service and know when people are just being rude. Again, everyone is entitled to an off day but after reading a few reviews I can see this is a reoccurring thing. Dont open for dine in if you can't be nice to customers/ want to close at 8:30 and take a...
