Thought this was an Asian or Asian style restaurant because that's what it's listed as in Google and Yelp. However from the moment you enter it resembles a pretentious coffee spot in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I'm not sure what style of restaurant Roosterspin is and I don't know if the owners know either. The menu is a hodge podge of different cultures and foods ranging from cheese curds to burgers, ramen, corn on the cob, calamari, sushi and chicken & waffles. It knows what it would "like to be", but not sure what it "wants to be". Roosterspin's menu is like looking at an Asian person and calling them Chinese, when they're actually Japanese or Filipino. Then when the person is offended you say "well isn't it the same thing". Roosterspin bundles different Asian food experiences into "one big Asian" and tries to pass it off as being "diverse".
We were seated immediately but had to wait exactly an hour for our food. Another party came in a half an hour after us and received their food before us and their party was double the size of ours! The wait time was disappointing and we were going to pay for our drinks and leave but the food finally arrived. I can't say it was terrible but the wait time definitely brought down the excitement and pun not intended..left a bad taste in my mouth.
We ordered the chicken sandwich and fries and cauliflower flower wings. The drinks were okay. The Pina colada needed more coconut but it wasn't terrible. The food is overpriced for the area and the price doesn't match the quality. Especially for a place that's BYOB. We watched the waitress cater to the group that were served before us but came in after, while she never even offered us ketchup or any other condiments for our meal.
Roosterspin also does Karaoke and even that's exorbitant. If you compare it to any spot in Murray Hill in NYC, where there are a plethora of Karaoke bars you'll see that Roosterspin is grossly overpriced. Even their bundled offerings with food and Karaoke is a ripoff. Don't take my word for it, do the comparisons yourself. Roosterspin even by its name is marketed like a cool spot with a live DJ but it's just a record themed Asian fusion/inspired Americana, Italian, Southern styled restaurant with an identity crisis and poor...
Read moreI recently found out about this restaurant and after looking at the pics of food, I knew I had to try it, so when my cousin came in from out of town, I knew just where we were going to eat. Roosterspin is a nice, cozy spot downtown Westfield. The ambiance has somewhat of a New York Restaurant type vibe, as the tables are situated somewhat close together; it's dimly lit, yet quaint. The decor is a mixture of industrial, retro & contemporary; yet it all flows well together. Now let's get to what really matters, the food! The presentation for everything was on point! We started out with the Dynamite Shrimp & Kimchi Fries. The shrimp were nice & crunchy, the only problem was I rarely felt the texture of shrimp on my pallet. The kimchi fries was a bit deceiving, in my crazy creative mind, I literally thought they had found a way to make kimchi into a French fry style (NOT!!!! ). The kimchi fries were regular French fries, with a sauce that had kimchi in it; had I known that I would not have ordered it; in my opinion, it was just okay and nothing spectacular. For the entree my cousin had the Kraze Burger which was huge, she said it was the best burger she ever had and gave it 5 stars, she wasn't crazy about the fried pickles that accompanied it, but fried pickles are one of those things..... you can either take them or leave them! Either way that burger was huge, so huge that she couldn't eat it all in one sitting. I on the other hand had the Korean Fried Chicken which was fabulous, I got the soy garlic wings flavor which was a perfect blend of the soy and garlic & like some other Korean Fried Chicken it wasn't too sweet; the flavors were very well balanced; I absolutely loved them & would go back and order the same thing. My son ordered the Seafood Yaki Udon, he thought it was good, the portion size was great, I tasted it, it wasn't bad, but not something I would order. Overall our experience was memorable. The customer service, food, atmosphere & portion size were all great. I would definitely go back again. Lastly it's important to know that the entrance is on the side of the building to the rear of the parking lot and conveniently located at the Westfield train station. It's worth a try, great vegan & pescatarian...
Read moreRoosterspin is the hidden Gem of Westfield. If you haven’t been you’re missing out.
It’s a little bit of NYC’s K-Town in the suburbs.
I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars. The ambience is upbeat and fun but not too loud where you can’t hear anyone at the dinner table and the food is innovative and delicious.
I took my in-laws there last night and they were hooked on the Fried Chicken, it’s to die for. If wanna be safe, then go for the Soy Garlic sauce. It’s plenty flavorful and a perfect compliment to the double fried extra crispy skin! (Light years better than any friend chicken I’ve ever had before btw)
If you’re up for a spicy adventure, then you have to try the Spicy Soy Garlic Sauce. It’s a 3 alarm fire in your mouth! I mean it not as spicy as something you’d find at Buffalo Wild Wings, but still it’s enough heat that you’ll feel a moderate sting on your lips for a few minutes after eating. It’s definitely way too hot for younger children.
Like Ramen? Then you have to try their Ramen Tacos. It’s a refreshing Shrimp or Bulgogi taco with a Ramen noodle extra crunchy taco. Talk about a treat for your taste buds. It comes with refreshing pico de gallo, lettuce, and the usual taco toppings. Beware - it is SUPER filling! The ramen taco shell adds tons of carbs!
I almost forgot. You have to try the pork steamed buns for an appetizer. It’s perfectly cooked pork with a steamed bun that reminds me a little bit of a corn dog bun. Try them and thank me later :). Make sure you order 3 of them because they will go fast.
CONS - The only thing I would watch out for is the legs of the tables. I consistently hit my knees on the legs when I sat down. It’s a just a little thing but I imagine if your eating with small children that something like banging their knee on the table could cause a little stir.
All in all - this is a great family friendly restaurant tucked away near the train station in Westfield. If you’re looking for an American Korean fusion that the kids will like, then you must try this place!
Oh! And for dessert, walk over to Cinnaholic! Hands down the best vegan (psuedo healthy) dessert in town! Check out my...
