Unfortunately, this place continues to go into a downward spiral.
I have been going to Turning Point in Westfield for years but in the last few have been skeptical in going because of the slow & inconsiderate customer service. My Father & I went there yesterday as we approached the host stand we were ignored & treated as we were interrupting the employees day. There was a manager at the host stand/desk on the phone staring hard at the POS system as if he was trying in every ounce of his being to ignore & not interact with us at all costs; it was almost cringeworthy.
Eventually the server from the counter came over & said it will be a min since tables had to be cleaned which none were being actively cleaned at all. They had 5-6 empty tables - all dirty simultaneously - while people are waiting. I don't believe they use bussers at this venue so I am assuming it is a system where the servers clean the tables as well where no one wants to take part in that aspect of their job responsibility since it's a pigsty. As the server goes back to chatting with her co-workers (which they always do) no one goes to clean the tables while they keep me & my 76 year old Father who recently had a hip replacement waiting for no reason whatsoever (5-6 tables open, all filthy). I see nothing is getting done & go to the manager who is so "hard at work" on the phone and ask him, 'Why is my Father & I waiting for a table when 6 tables are open & no one is actively cleaning them? Because you are too busy on the phone & not worried at all about the people who made plans to come here, prepared to spend their money & enjoy a portion of their day that they have been looking forward to all week while you just sit there & ignore them?' The counter server over heard us & then decided to jump in & clean a table for us, something she could have done from the get-go but chose on her own recognizance not to do so. This manager was so apathetic that I had to informed him that I own 2 businesses in NYC & 1 in CA & if he worked for me he'd be fired, not suspended, not spoken to - Fired. This guy has no place in the hospitality industry he is obviously not a leader, can not manager the staff (who seems to run the place & do what they want, when they feel like it). When we got sat they only cleaned our table & left all the other tables dirty including having napkins, silverware, small empty honey packets on the floor and had my Father & I eat surrounded by 4-5 dirty tables (the whole time there, when we left they were all still dirty). Side note: I am not even going to go into detail at the table where we weren't offered water & the coffee/food took forever (a small fruit dish & sandwich took forever, great job Turning Point).
You would think out of courtesy, professionalism, being customer service oriented or simply having manners that the manager would come over & see how we are doing perhaps reach out as a gesture of goodwill but absolutely not. Just a lazy, irresponsible employee who avoids simple job tasks avoiding human contact. Not even a 'my apologies for making you wait' - Nothing.
Take note Turning Point:
It's not rocket science; everything should cater to the guest & to enhance their experience on every level. The guest should always be the primary responsibility and should always comes first from offering a sincere greeting as they walk through door, to keeping them informed on waiting times, to being pro-active in helping them, making them a priority & offering an enthusiastic good night and thank you as they exit the premises. It's little things like simple manners, simple forms of the human element, connecting with the guest that immediately enhances a guests experiences in any business & offers the guest a sense of real customer appreciation. By doing so it pretty much cements their return to visit to the venue makes them feel incredibly noteworthy & as the sole driven purpose of the business itself. This place should learn to put priorities over convenience.
My great Father, who deserve better than this, & I will...
Read moreTerrible terrible terrible... My friend and I went to this restaurant with very high hopes as she had read great reviews. Firstly we walk in and the entire restaurant smelt like a dirty wash cloth. After debating to stay or go we decided to give it a chance. We brought two bottles of champaign with us to celebrate a new job, only planning on drinking one mind you. When we asked the waitress to open the bottle she did so, with a terrible attitude, and ended up exploding the bottle losing more than half the contents in it. We laughed it off and got about 1 Momosa each from the bottle. Our food came out and to be honest was bland. It wasn't awful but nothing to rave about at all. We then asked the waitress again to open up our second bottle seeing as she lost almost all of the fort bottle. She did so with out hesitation but again attitude. She took the bottle in the back and we heard a loud bang. Again losing more than half of our bottle, we did not blame her as clearly there was something wrong with the bottles we bought. We would not have been offended but for the fact that our waitress along with 3 other waitresses came storming over to our table asking us, very loudly, If we bought cheap champagne. If that is not embarrassing enough, in front of the entire restaurant, there's more! About two minutes after the interrogation of the cheap champagne a disheveled looking waitress comes over to us and pulls up a chair to take a seat. She then proceeds to say to us "I am going to talk to you like you girls are my daughters". she proceeds to ask us if we know where we are right now, trying to insinuate that we don't belong in Westfield. She then was interrogating us on how we were getting home and why were we even at the restaurant. Mind you at this point we had only had one mamosa each and were already finished with our mediocre food. She proceeded to ask if we agreed with her that we weren't going to drink our next bottle. In an attempt to get her to go away we said we agreed and she went to wrap up the bottle since they had just opened it two minuites before her offensive talk. Once she came back with the bottle we asked her to get her manager and in a terrible tone told us "sure but she already knows everything and agrees with me." We then here her and her waitress friends saying that they are going to kick us out and making fun of us. The manager arrived to our table and was EXTREMELY apologetic. My friend asked her before anything else if there was a bottle limit, since it's a BYOB, and she said absolutely not. When we explained what had just happened she was so embarrassed but it almost seemed as if this has happened before with this particular waitress. The manager comped our entire bill and said we could stay for as long as we want even tho they were closing in 5 minuites. She is the sole reason I am not being as harsh in this review as I originally intended to be. Although the manager was wonderful I would never suggest anyone going to this terrible restaurant. The waitresses are terrible and classless and if you are going to go anywhere maybe try to go to the...

If you’re looking for a delicious breakfast that includes decadent sweets and rare hard to find exotic coffees, then you’ve come to the right place. Turning Point treats every guest like family. Every time I go there it feels like I’ve walked into a big family brunch. All of the servers talk to each other like they’re old friends. High school graduates sit at tables and reunite after time away from home. It’s like everyone knows each other. There’s something about a place like this that makes me want to return again and again.
My wife and I alternate between Turning Point and Addams Tavern every other weekend. I highly recommend starting with a glass of the Jamaica Blue Mountain Blend Coffee. It’s just sweet enough that you don’t have to add any sugar to it. Our tradition is to get an order of the Cinnamon Pancakes. I don’t 100% remember what they are called on the menu, but just tell the server you want something similar to a cinnamon roll. They are heavenly!
If you’re in the mood for sweets try the OMG French toast, but get ready for a full on sugar crash after brunch. It’s topped with bacon too…anything topped with bacon is good in my book.
My wife always gets the Avocado toast as her meal. Sometimes she adds eggs to it to make sure she gets a balanced meal.
What I love most about this place is the atmosphere. It’s comfortable and laid back, no one is here trying to impress you with their knowledge of sustainable food practices. The space creates an environment that makes you want to lean in closer to connect with the people you’re with. While they have WiFi, I didn’t notice a lot of people sitting around on their phones. And even though there is a lot of conversations going on at once, I didn’t find myself raising my voice for my wife to hear me.
If you are new to town and want to get a feeling for Westfield, this is the...
