My husband and I love discovering new restaurants and always seek out places with exceptional reviews. We chose to dine at Sweet Waters to celebrate a meaningful occasion, but unfortunately, the experience left us deeply disappointed.
We arrived around 3:30 PM and opted to sit at the bar. We were given menus right away, but despite being the only ones at the bar, had to ask for our drinks after waiting a while. When we finally placed our order, the wedge salad arrived promptly and was quite good, offering a brief glimmer of hope.
We then ordered the filet mignon and New York strip steaks. Water was never offered, and once we finished our drinks, no one came by to ask if we’d like another. The bartender, unfortunately, was disengaged and inattentive—at one point disappearing entirely for nearly 10 minutes, leaving no one tending the bar as more guests arrived.
The bread that was brought out resembled reheated dinner rolls—dense, doughy, and unappetizing. When our steaks arrived, they looked promising but were both significantly overcooked. I had ordered mine medium-rare and received medium; my husband’s medium steak came out well done. The texture was unpleasant, and the quality of the meat was surprisingly poor for a steakhouse. We reluctantly sent them back—a first for us at a restaurant of this supposed caliber.
Throughout the meal, the lack of attentiveness continued. Our empty glasses were cleared without any offer of another drink. My husband sat without a beverage for ten minutes before we had to actively flag the bartender, who had his back turned while polishing glasses. I ordered another premium drink from the cocktail menu after getting the bartender”s attention.
When the replacement steaks arrived, my husband’s was nearly raw. At that point, we’d had enough. We returned the food, asked for the check, paid—and quietly left, leaving a full $17 cocktail.
One could easily assume that we are extremely picky, but that couldn’t be further than the truth. My husband and I are quite polite and very down to earth. We enjoy fine dining, and our very generous “tippers.”
Despite the restaurant’s upscale reputation, what was meant to be a special occasion became a disappointing experience marked by poor service, inattentiveness, and shockingly substandard food.
We often go to Seasons 52 and Capital Grill, who have consistently excellent food, exceptional service, and bartenders who enjoy having conversations with their patrons. Client relations is something this establishment clearly does not prioritize.
The ambience of the restaurant seemed OK. The glasses were...
Read moreAbsolutely the worst place I have ever eaten. Where do I start? Well my wife and I called to find out when was the last seating for dinner the guy rudely says 9:30 then slams the phone. We arrive there at 8:45pm ask for a table only available seating is outside. This was understandable due to the fact that they where packed. We where seated outside in the worst possible place on part of the street in a very dark are with no lighting no candles nothing. Wait let me understand this a high end place for dinner no lighting? We sit and the waiter comes over I told it was dark he brings over by far the smallest candle on earth. We proceeded to order. 2 crab cake appetizers they come with a small salad the crabcake itself was undercooked no crisp to it just horrible but the salad that came with it was fantastic. We then ordered a bottle of Jordan Cabernet Savignon they brought it out and it was ice cold this is a wine that you drink at room temperature. My wife ordered the Chilean Seabass and I ordered the lamb chops. chilean sea bass was dry no flavor on a bed of beans watt the lamb chops I ordered medium they were well-done no flavor and the brussels sprouts you could play golf with them that’s how hard they were. To wrap it up We asked the waiter for salt and pepper and proceeded to tell him that the food has no flavor. We did not finish our food nor did we drink the wine we took that home with us so it could set to room temperature. To add insult to injury we ask the bus boy for our bill he the proceeds to send a different waiter out with the bill. I’m not a bad guy bill was $286.00 I gave them $340 in cash with the tip. I just arrived home and my stomach is in knots and burning and just hurled the food up. Lamb wa not properly cleaned I knew it had a very weird taste to it. In closing STAY AWAY. Minorities can go to a way better place for service and food. can’t believe they sat us in the...
Read moreDue to prior reviews this place by all means is a quality restaurant. I came here because it is one of the few places in the area offering bernaise sauce as a steak option.
For starters you can always judge a steakhouse based on its crab cake appetizer. This was one of the best crab cakes outside of Boston or the Chesapeake area. It didn't come with lemon and I love lemon but it didn't need it. What a wonderful crab cake.
Eating at the bar you have no idea who the bartender is as all the waiters are the bartenders and with two or three of them behind the bar at the same time - if your waiter is not one of them you are in a bad spot. Not sure why this place does not dedicate a bartender but the bar patron suffers as a result of this odd practice.
The reason for my average review is due to the american alfredo sauce being passed off as bernaise. The sauce was butter, cream and parm (or other) cheese with a sprinkle of dried tarragon. The same sauce that is used as alfredo sauce in most italian american restaurants. No shallot vinegar reduction, no egg yolks, nothing even close to resembling a bernaise sauce, which is practically a hollandaise, and definitely no fresh tarragon. Extremely disappointing for a dried out medium rare filet that came out medium well - filet is already a dry cut of meat to begin with. I honestly thought they brought out the wrong sauce and when I said, "I ordered bernaise" the waiter or bartender or barback said that it was bernaise.
My advice is to take it off the menu if you can't make it or there is no tarragon. A steakhouse of this caliber has no business making this...
