I visited Fiamma Wood Fired Pizza recently with a friend for what we hoped would be a satisfying, quick bite. While the company was great, the restaurant itself left much to be desired, resulting in a decidedly average experience that I'm rounding up from 2.5 to 3 stars purely for the enjoyable evening with my friend.
Walking in, the first thing we noticed was how cramped the dining area felt. Tables are placed quite close together, which can make for a noisy and somewhat uncomfortable atmosphere. Our initial table hadn't been wiped down from the previous guests, which was an immediate red flag. We quickly moved to a clean table ourselves. Service was sporadic; our server was prompt in taking our drink and food orders but then seemed to disappear. We weren't checked on after our meals arrived, and getting a refill on water or the check required catching someone's eye. It felt very transactional. A major heads-up for future diners is that Fiamma is a BYOB establishment, as their on-site drink options are limited to water and sodas. I highly recommend bringing your favorite wine or beer to complement the meal.
Unfortunately, the food was a mixed bag. We started with the Calamari Fritti, which was underwhelming. The main issue was a serious lack of seasoning beyond a heavy hand with the salt, and the calamari itself didn't taste fresh; it had a slightly rubbery texture. I ended up eating only a few pieces and left the rest. For my entrée, I had the Gamberoni Scampi. This was a step up but still had its flaws. On the positive side, the linguini was well-cooked, and there was a generous amount of shrimp. The biggest issue was the sheer volume of pasta; it was an immense portion that overwhelmed the other components. I ate about 30% of the pasta and all the shrimp, but it felt wasteful. The dish was decent, but not compelling enough to make me want to tackle such a huge portion again.
Based on this visit alone, my experience was a little subpar. Between the cramped space, inattentive service, and underwhelming food, Fiamma didn't live up to its potential. However, the meal was a firm reminder that good company can elevate any experience. The name of the place is "Wood Fired Pizza," and I clearly made a mistake by not ordering their signature item. I'm willing to give Fiamma another chance solely to try the pizza. For now, my recommendation is, if you come, bring your own drinks, maybe skip the appetizers, and definitely...
Read moreAfter hearing good things about Fiamma for a few years now my wife and I decided to try it out. We recently went on a Friday evening with our young son for an early dinner. We were seated right away and given a choice of whatever table we wanted - a small plus. The service was attentive and timely. Not pushy at all but always nearby when we needed something. We got a pizza, (the Spinaci) hotsy totsy shrimp, a salad, and a kids linguini and meatball for our son. Everything was very good to excellent, with the star of the show being the hotsy totsy shrimp. It’s hard to remember them all, but it was probably the best hotsy totsy I’ve ever had. The sauce was outrageous - very garlicky and the perfect amount of heat. The shrimp were big and perfectly cooked. I would honestly return for that dish alone. The pizza was very good, with the only slight negative being it was a little heavy and sloppy, to the point that we ate it with a fork and knife. The pizza we ordered had a lot of toppings, and they were not shy with them, but if you want super thin, crispy crust pizza with “no droop” this pizza might not be your favorite. Of course, that was just one pizza from a menu with many offerings, so there may be other styles. A nice little positive was that they served the pizza with a little extra marinara on the side. Every restaurant should do that. The salad was standard, nothing to go crazy about, as was the kids linguini, but my kid certainly seemed to enjoy it. Overall, we had an excellent experience and I absolutely plan on returning. I’d give Fiamma 4.5 stars if I could. Google needs to allow...
Read moreDo not patronize! My wife and I (along with another couple) decided to try the restaurant Friday night before a movie in town. Food was OK but felt as if everything was rushed. At the end of the meal, with salads and pizza still on table, the staff began to clear the plates. We looked and saw there were other empty tables and no one was waiting. The bill was then given to us and owner came over to ask if we could hurry up and leave in case someone else needed the table. We had heard that this had happened to friends who had gone but thought they were joking when they told us about it. Apparently the owner does not feel anyone should linger after quickly finishing a dinner. Disgraceful way to run a business! You will do much better at the Brick Over Pizza restaurant about 500 feet down the road. There the staff and owner are MUCH more business oriented and consumer friendly. AVOID THIS RESTAURANT if you want a leisurely meal! When I told the owner we would not be returning and we would tell others about the experience he seemed as if he could care less.
There are many additional places in Westfield to eat- I suggest you patronize a place where they care about...
