We’ve been regulars here since they opened but unfortunately we’ve hit the end of the line. Food quality was always hit or miss but we stuck to the dishes we knew to be acceptable, and we like the atmosphere. However, both food and service quality have steadily declined and prices have risen. For our most recent meal:
Food - I had the yellow curry with beef. The potatoes were undercooked and the beef was of such low grade (tough and chewy like leather) that it felt like it was not meant for humans. My wife, who has low tolerance for spice, asked to swap the sriracha sauce for ponzu sauce for the steamed wontons, and they charged us extra for the ponzu.
Service - There is one very sweet and friendly staff member who used to wait tables but she’s now in the kitchen. The other wait staff are cold and always make us feel rushed. For example, at this meal our server dropped off the check before we were finished eating. We did not ask for the check and our server did not ask us if we cared for anything else. It was an hour before closing and our nostrils were already filling with the smell of Clorox as someone started to clean up the kitchen.
We’re saddened to write this review but the owner needs to hear this from us, local customers who’ve been regulars at least 8...
Read moreThis restaurant is amazing!! They have an incredible variety of foods and every single thing we ordered was phenomenal! The service was also wonderful! Between us we had shrimp fried rice, wonton soup, cucumber salad, miso soup and even sushi. All dishes were very tasty & authentic. The sushi was delicious - a good combo of flavors and great quality fish! In my opinion the sushi was on par with the Landing on the Lake.
On top of this, they were knowledgeable and very careful in regard to allergens! I have Celiac, so I have terrible reactions if I accidentally eat wheat/gluten. They went above and beyond and actually made me a gluten free ponzu sauce to go with the roll I ordered! They even told me they can make me fried rice gluten free! Also, my step mom has a serious shellfish allergy and they made sure to be very careful in regard to this as well.
Try this restaurant if you haven't. You will definitely find something you like! We will certainly be back!
P.S. The food display was also wonderful, so please forgive the photo... I got overly excited and ate a few pieces of the roll before I remembered to...
Read moreAn extremely tasty meal from a menu with surprising depth! Each of the dishes we had from Roast and Rice were a unique and flavorful experience (with generous portions)- a pleasant surprise in an area where fast food and bland taste are rampant. It’s rare you find a restaurant that serves such a fusion of cuisines, and does it well! Something for everyone on this menu, covering Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and Indian cuisines.
Dishes we had: Dipping Roti with Curry, Kimchi Fries, Pad Thai, Pineapple Fried Rice, Spicy Basil with Eggplant, Soft Shell Crab Burger, Roasted Chicken Over Rice.
The roasted chicken over rice was our favorite! The Pineapple fried rice was a sleeper hit (chicken, pineapple, raisins, and curry are a great combo). And the Pad Thai was solid as any!
Kudos to the owners (of the now closed Prawn and Basil) for bringing more good food and a pallet expanding experience to Westlake Village, best of luck, we’ll certainly be back.
