Arashi Japan Sushi & Steakhouse — Restaurant in Westlake

Extremely disappointed. This has been my absolute favorite sushi place for years. I unfortunately moved out of town and finally had the chance to bring my boyfriend here for lunch last Sunday. I had talked this restraunt up for years and could not believe how very disappointed we both were. The sushi rolls have changed, they were not rolled tight enough, and very small. We ended up getting 2 different rolls and 3 different appetizers and were not satisfied after our meal. One of my favorite items on the menu is the spicy salad. It's now prepared different and has shaved carrots instead of shaved white radishes and some mango sauce was added on the bottom, and the salad was topped with panco breading that was stale. The chef said it was a new spicy mango sauce he created, but it was on everything which made it over bearing. When you order sushi you want different options and flavors. I ordered the same rolls as I remember during my previous visits and they all had the spicy mango sauce instead of them having a spicy mayo. Our waitress was never to be seen and we never received refills on our drinks. A $65 lunch that was just mediocre is very disappointing. Please change back to the way things used to be and we will definitely be back the next time we are in town...

I'll start out by saying that I was nervous about the recent reviews of this place, but decided to come anyway due to everyone's opinion not being absolute fact.

Came for my Mom's birthday, but had a hard time reaching this place to make a reservation: the number listed on Yelp and their website/social channels rang busy every time I called-please see the picture attached to this review for both of their numbers if you are trying to reach the restaurant.

On to the food portion of the night: the food and presentation was very good! We enjoyed the Yellowtail hand roll, Snow Mountain, Volcano and Spider Rolls which were all fresh & delicious. They also had a very tasty Peach cold Sake we enjoyed.

Had lobster, shrimp and steak Hibachi which were all flavorful; I had a taste of the Hibachi scallops and the flavors of those were some of the best scallops I've ever had!

Lastly, this review only gets 4 stars, because the Yelp coupon link for $10 dollars off a $50 Hibachi meal didn't work (link was broken). Server was only able to give me $5 dollars off as a compromise because "the manager had just left for the night". A big heads up if you're checking into this place on Yelp before...

Literally the worst dining experience I have ever had. DO NOT COME HERE! Someone in the staff spilled soy sauce IN my purse, the waitress DID NOT CARE, I wasn't offered napkins, help, or even an apology?! She never came to check and see if me or my belongings we ok. I spent the ENTIRE time the chef was cooking emptying and cleaning my purse. Didn't get to see the onion volcano. 😡 In the middle of eating they came and cleaned the hibatchi, meaning dumping cleaning liquid and water all over it, so the delicious smell of burning cleaning fluid accompanied our meal! YUM! Plus now I smell like I work in a kitchen mmmmm sexy. After ALL this we are brought a bill with NO DISCOUNT...not offered ANYTHING. So I ask for the manager who proceeds to ARGUE with me about exactly who spilled the sou sauce (I DIDN'T SEE IT HAPPEN?) then tell us that because we still ate, no money would be taken off. Finally I was offered a free drink. A free friggin drink. Then after more outrage an entire 20%. This place is trash. It's servers are trash. It's management is trash. And the food is just ok. Don't waste your time and ruin your night. Literally...
