Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Westminster

Walked in the building and the host was friendly and welcoming. He answered our questions and grabbed the attention of the second host. The second host was a taller guy and walked up aggressively and slammed our menus down on the table. He gave even more of an attitude when we asked to move the table. Our waiter Melvin (name tag said Mel) started off excellent. We even complimented him on his service until... we found a spider floating in our drink. We called him over and pointed it out and he proceeded to tell us that it wasn’t a big deal because “fruit flies get in the drinks all the time”. Shocked is an understatement. He asked if we wanted another drink and we declined. His customer service went down hill from there. I don’t know if he was insulted that we didn’t want another drink but he started giving attitude and at one point told us he visited our table too often. The manager, Chris, came out and apologized about the spider in our drink and offered to comp the bill that had the drink with the spider attached. A few minutes later Mel came back out with two bills. We informed him that the one bill was supposed to be comped (it was a 2 for $26) and he stormed off and told manager Chris in front of us that we said he promised to comp the whole table. We never said that. Chris came back over to clarify and remained professional about it and comped our one bill as promised and gave us the second bill to pay. Instead of reassuring us, Melvin maintained an attitude and was very dismissive. We were a table of four and all of us were very disappointed. We were just praising him only to be disappointed in his customer service. The only reason this review received a Star is because manager Chris made us feel like someone in the restaurant cared about us customers but we still had a bad experience. Applebee's serves consistently good food for a chain Restaurant. The atmosphere is family friendly and the children's menu includes healthy selections that most will be happy to eat. My husband and I stopped for a late lunch on a whim. The moment we parked in a wheelchair spot, a hostess came out to provide assistance getting into the most accessible entrance and seating us in a wheelchair friendly space. This kind of service is very rare. I greatly appreciated it. I believe our special was called 2 can dine for $9.99. We got to split a appetizer chosen from among several that provided a good variety. We chose onion rings, which arrived promptly. They were hot and crispy and accompanied by a terrific spicy remoulade sauce. We both ordered cheeseburgers and got to select our toppings and whether we wanted the center of our burger to be pink. Most places cook their meats until they are bone dry. However, a burger cooked medium satisfies health standards. Mine was juicy, but not bloody. The meat was tender and delicious. My side was carrots - a request. They were they were thoroughly cooked without being mushy. My husband enjoyed his burger and fries. The rest room was accessible, clean, and stocked with supplies. We had a pleasant dining experience...

Did not have a very good experience at Westminster Applebee’s. It started OK, waitress was very nice and attentive. Got pretzels with honey mustard and beer cheese sauce, pretty good. Waitress brought drinks when needed. Dinner course was a different experience. My son ordered boneless Old Bay wings. The breading was super thick and hard, and the wings had way too much Old Bay on them. My wife and I ordered steaks that were on special that came with fried shrimp for $1 more. Wife’s sirloin steak was way under cooked, middle was basically raw for a medium temp request. My ribeye was literally a whitish color, it looked like pork it was so weirdly colored. And really chewy, mostly not edible. The broccoli and mashed potato I had was good, and the side of fried shrimp were decent. My daughter ordered a chicken bowl, said it tasted good but chicken was a bit cold and rubbery tasting. I don’t normally post reviews, but thought I’d put it out there cause I think the kitchen is hurting the rest of the staff and letting customers down. Waitress was really great. Next time maybe just get my regular burger or sandwich with the pretzels again, but with so many options in Westminster, not sure that will be...
