Anytime you walk into JeanieBird, there’s a feeling of pure community and togetherness. The delicious smells coming from the combination of the sweet bakery confections and the savory sandwiches, soups, and other specials warms your soul as you walk in, and you notice the many people enjoying quality time with others or taking a moment by themselves to enjoy the calm yet bustling environment , and you just KNOW you’ve come to a special place. A place that is always filled with a combination of regulars, college students, families getting a treat with the tots - you can’t help but recognize that a place that caters to such a wide variety of customers is a special spot. The food is always top notch, but equally as special is the staff at JB - you are always greeted by a kind and welcoming collection of faces. They ask about your day, offer their recommendations, and go the extra mile to make you feel special, even if just for a moment to make a coffee order and run out the door. I’m moving from Main Street to the 21784, and while I’m sad to no longer be just a quick walk away from such a special spot, I will always try to make a stop in whenever I’m in Westminster for a McDaniel sandwich with bacon on an everything croissant and an iced coffee (with simple or complicated syrup, depending on the day’s mood 😉).
Special shout out to Ella - You are amazing! Your smile and friendly attitude brought such a light to my day. On a personal note, I’ve been going through a rough patch and having a hard time lately, but the little time you took to make a tiny connection truly made a difference and you are so appreciated. Best of luck, happy holidays, and...
Read moreJeannieBird is, hands down, my favorite place to go in Westminster. It's almost dangerous that it's so close to my house!
The atmosphere here is welcoming and cozy, with beautiful decor and plenty of nice places to sit. I've popped in here for just a moment and sat on the long benches, and I've also brought a book and sat for hours with several cups of tea and some snacks.
The owner, Bernie, is a fixture in the town and makes an effort to know everybody. He easily spreads that philosophy to the rest of the staff, who have become familiar acquaintances and even friends over the years. Everyone learns everyone's name, and back when I ordered the same thing many times in a row everyone remembered my "usual". JeannieBird has that perfect small-town atmosphere, where you can chat about your life and feel that you are welcome.
The best thing about JeannieBird, though, is the food and drinks. They make a fantastic array of baked goods unlike what you can get anywhere else in town. The tea and coffee are excellent. They have an expanding breakfast and lunch menu, and I've never had anything I disliked (but if you want specifics, you can never go wrong with the biscuit and sausage gravy when it's on special, and on their regular menu I can always go for an egg and sausage sandwich on an english muffin).
In short, I think the best review I can give to JeannieBird is that I'm here at least once a week, every week. I'm not ashamed to admit that there have been times when I have gone here twice in one day....
Read moreUpdating my review The owner reaching out in response to my original review below and offering a refund/free meal just goes above and beyond and is a stellar model for how all businesses should strive to treat customers. I really appreciate that Bernie reached out to me personally- and will be in touch soon!! Thank you!!

I’m sorry to have to write this review, because I see so many positive ones. The atmosphere was nice, and I’m very sad to hear about the owner’s passing. But I didn’t enjoy my visit here. First, the people working behind the counter were more interested in talking to one another than taking our order. It looks like according to my receipt it was Emily who helped us. The portions were incredibly disappointing. My $7 sandwich was made up of 2 slivers of bread barely bigger than my fist. That strikes me as downright stingy, as if they were purposely making it as small as possible. I left feeling totally ripped off, not to mention very hungry. I am disappointed with my experience here and unfortunately do not feel I could recommend it to anyone. In hindsight I should have just let them know then and there and asked for something else, although judging by my partner’s salad, I doubt the other portions were...
