Update 8/20/17 So I've given Renegade a few more chances since my initial review and I have to say I'm impressed. A lot of the problems I had have been fixed, and on taste alone they're still the best burritos in town. Always huge, always satisfying, and always great service from their stellar employees. I still wish they would go back to the bigger sizes for chips and queso, but at this point its about my only complaint. I will definitely be returning.
Original review: First off, any of these reviews submitted before March are actually for Big City Burrito, as Renegade Buritto just took over this location and de-branded from Big City according to the sign on the front door. I'm really hoping some Big City's still exist somewhere, because Renegade is a major step down.
They went from three burrito sizes down to one, and eliminated two of the tortilla options (tomato chili and pesto, both delicious). So if you're a high school kid or food challenge fanatic, no more Gutbusters. And if you're someone who doesn't need a two pound burrito every time you eat, gone is the regular.
They got rid of or changed most of the protein options, the most baffling of which is the chicken mole, a family favorite. In our two visits we've tried both chicken options and the carne adada and found them seriously lacking in comparison to their predecessors.
They cut the size of the sides in half, so gone are the days of stopping in just for big sides of queso, guac and chips for the kids. They now come in tiny little plastic cups that take about a 1/4th a bag of chips to get through, because for some odd reason the chip bags are the same size as before.
There is no longer a breakfast burrito option on the menu, which makes little sense because you can still cobble together a breakfast burrito with the available ingredients, you just have to explain to the employees that you've been coming here for years and you want that burrito that used to be easy to order but now isn't.
Gone are all the specialty named burritos that were so inventive and fun, so if you're a long time customer who loved the ease of simply calling out your favorite burritos name and watching as it was built with ease while you patiently waited.... Get ready to name every single ingredient in your old favorite while they try to figure out if they still carry them.
We gave Renegade two chances, wanting to at least have a sample size before making a decision. But we've been going to Big City weekly for years and considered them to be the best burritos in the world. To have a second rate establishment that simply wants to look more like Chipotle in hopes of making Chipotle money is severely disappointing. If you're going to reduce options and cut sizes and limit the fun and creativity then yeah, I guess you do look like Chipotle. But they do it better, faster and cheaper, so we're left wondering how exactly you expect to compete. Good luck with that, we'll be at Chipotle.
Side note, the employees are always amazing, just as they were before. None of this review should reflect poorly on them,...
Read moreWe've been coming here twice a week since they first opened and were operating under a different name. We really love the food, the only complaint is that you really need to watch the staff sometimes. The employees who've been here a while are very friendly and very good at washing their hands and keeping their gloved hands off of stuff, but there's a lot of staff turnover as you might imagine and I think the training is lacking. I keep seeing newer employees touching their faces and hair and clothes with gloved hands, not washing their hands at all before putting on new gloves, even touching the floor. I won't let this behavior slide without telling them exactly what I think of it and that they're going to get people sick. For me, it would be 5 stars if the new employees just had better training and strong no-nonsense leadership. Also, a new girl a week or so ago got snotty to me that she would need to charge me more if I got extra rice and beans on my burrito beyond the tiny amount she had put on there, so I had to get grouchy with her about it because I know exactly how much is supposed to be on what must be my 300th burrito...
Read moreOur new favorite place! We were driving on the highway trying to find a breakfast place when we saw this big sign on the side of the building that said "Burritos". We thought we would check it out to see if they had breakfast burritos and they did plus a lot more! There was already a few people ahead of us and we saw a few more walking in behind us so we figured it would be good because they were already busy. I was right! All of the staff was very friendly, professional and efficient. The restaurant, counter and workspace was all very clean and organized. The breakfast burritos were really really good, one of the best I've ever had! My favorite part was after they had added all of the ingredients they mixed them together in the burrito before wrapping it. There's nothing worse than getting three bites of one ingredient and then three bites of another, so by the mixing it everything was evenly distributed throughout the burrito. We will definitely be coming back here and might make this our regular...
