Haven't eaten at a Tokyo Joe's since 2005. I don't eat out often, so when I do it is kind of a treat for myself. All I can say is never again.
An employee called me up to the counter and I told her I had not been to one in a loooong time so I needed a minute to go over the menu. When I was ready to order the exchange went like this....
Me: "okay, I will do a regular size bowl to go with white chicken and white rice..."
Emp: ignores me and is talking to another employee "it was me, I just sent mine through"
Me: "I will have a regular size with white chicken and white rice"
Emp: (talking to a coworker, still ignoring me) "okay, I want to get the food before I go on break"
Me: "a regular bowl with white chicken..."
Emp: "white or brown rice?"
Me: "white" (for the third time)
Then after finishing my order I sit down to wait and a few minutes later the girl who rang me up tries to hand me someone else's order, all sushi and says "Renee, right?". No, you literally just took my order and my name 3 minutes ago. Keep in mind there were all of 5 people in the whole restaurant and only two people waiting for food. It was obvious she didn't care and just wanted to get to her lunch break.
Then I got my bowl and took it out to my car in the parking lot to eat while listening to a podcast. Open it up and everything was already cold, 1 minute after it was handed to me. I asked for broccoli, there were 5 pieces, only one piece was of normal size, the other 4 were those teeny tiny pieces that break off of normal sized ones. I also added scramble egg, it was like half an eggs worth, no way was it a whole egg. Pitiful offering for $10 + tip, shouldn't have even left a tip with the way she treated me, but I can't do that as I also work service industry and I...
Read moreI love the food at this place, but the kitchen staff don't seem to want to follow food handling guidelines and the store is in serious need of strong leadership. I witnessed a cook the other day, with his food handling gloves on, grab a cup he was drinking from and adjusting the top of the straw where his mouth/saliva had been, and then sticking that same glove back into the raw vegetables bin. The other cook, making sushi rolls with his gloved hands on, I saw touching his hair, his face, the wall, and the floor. Watch the cooks closely when you come in, you'll see what I mean. Gloves mean nothing if they're 1) not washing their hands before donning new gloves, and 2) then touching everything in sight.
I took up a separate complaint with them about a year ago, and they were prompt in responding and rectifying the issue. There has been a lot of staff turnover since then, and this new bunch in the kitchen just seem to not give a care with what they do with their hands while wearing their food handling gloves. I tried contacting Tokyo Joes again a week ago to hopefully have them re-address and re-train their staff, but there was no response other than an automated message that Kristi would contact me (she didn't). Our family had been eating here once or twice per week, every week, but I'm not going to get sick from staff who don't care and management who seem to be absent and not very good at monitoring or training their own employees. Tokyo Joes seems to be growing much faster than its ability to keep its employees in line or...
Read moreIll start by saying how dumb we are to always go back to a place that has literally never made our order right. Its constantly wrong in some way. Either ingredients are added or missing every time we order. We order the same thing every Wed and its always a little different. For the first year id order and PAY for extra veggies but it always seemed liked and looked like there were no more than my wife's. So I started ordering them on the side, and than it was clearly obvious it actually was double veggies. I've never ordered the top 5 veggies but most the time that is what they give me because the cooks are obviously on auto pilot. This has been happening for 3 years and we have delt with it. Sometimes you get peppers in the salads sometimes its tomatoes, sometimes you get dressing on the salad, other times its in a cup, etc.... We tried Door Dash, great idea right?. No second set of veggies that were PAID for and put in extra special instructions on the Door Dash App, just missing completely. Wrong veggies on the same bowl, plus the wrong size bowl, and 2 wrong sauces, but extra sauces to boot. They are incapable of making an order correctly. Food is good, but never right. If you are okay with almost getting what you order, than...
