My wife and I have been looking for eateries in the area to compliment the quaint setting of Weston but our findings have been mixed. Recently, we had friends visiting and we took this as an opportunity to try the Avalon Cafe. My selection was based purely on Google reviews, and the Avalon Cafe has the highest review score in Weston - for a good reason.
Varied Menu. The Avalon Cafe has a varied menu that spans from Burgers and Salads to unique plates such as Ostrich, Elk, and Wild Boar. The Avalon doesn’t limit itself to meat options either. They have a good selection of fish plates, both appetizers and entrees, as well as a fish of the day option.
Excellent Food. My wife and I both enjoyed our meal. We started with the fish sampler that consisted flavorful plate of grilled salmon, tuna, shrimp, and scallops. I struggled with a decision between the daily special, grilled Ahi Tuna, and the Western Trio (Chicken, Steak, Fish) as my entree, but ultimately chose (and enjoyed!) the Western Trio. My wife is normally conservative with her selections, but she couldn’t pass on an opportunity to try Wild Boar. The Wild Boar was slightly tender, but exceptionally flavorful and was complimented by the fresh, local, steamed vegetables. We ended our meal with some wonderful and tasteful coffee and an ala mode apple tart that contained some of the thinnest (and fresh) apple slices I’ve ever tasted.
Attentive Wait Staff. Our party arrived shortly after opening and were the first ones seated. Several other couples arrived shortly after us and the restaurant filled quickly. The wait staff remained attentive throughout our meal, regardless of the number of other diners and seemed knowledgeable on their menu.
Price. The Avalon Café is much more expensive than other nearby restaurants, but you get what you pay for, and the Avalon Café is certainly worth every penny.
Comfortable Setting. The Avalon Café is of older construction. The building was originally constructed in the mid-19th century but was renovated after a fire several years ago. There are three dining areas of similar size, and a small bar area. The dining rooms have tall ceilings which amplify conversations but our party still felt comfortable in the atmosphere, even with several other couples in the same dining room. Also worth mentioning is that the Avalon Café works on reservations. I called at 3pm on a Saturday and was able to get a reservation for 5:30pm that evening.
Overall, I’d highly recommend the Avalon Café for anyone looking to celebrate an intimate event with good food and a comfortable setting, in the quaint town of Weston. I will be returning to the Avalon Café in future and look forward to trying another item on their...
Read moreAn email I sent to the owners and never got any acknowledgement :
I am writing you an email because I know you are a small business and reviews affect your company tremendously. So I just wanted to send a private message. We were there at 6:30 this past Saturday for dinner. We were so excited because we heard nothing but great things about you. But our experience was far from that. You had booked from what I gathered a bachelorette party. But the party was out of control. Screaming and ruining everyone's experience. Your wait staff was so frustrated and rushed. You could tell by their body language. They were exhausted. Again, out of their control. We get our food, I ordered ducks and my partner ordered a medium steak. The meat was overcooked. The steak was medium well as was the duck. When I talked to my co-workers about it this morning they were shocked. They said they have always had amazing food there. It led me to believe that it was the party that affected the quality of the food. I know you make a lot of money on the parties but I know that three other tables that were in the same room as us were not happy. One table said, I don't think I'd go back as it is with us. When eating at a place like this, we are paying for the experience. I feel like if your restaurant can't accommodate large parties and keep it under control as well as individual guests you will lose a lot of repeat business. Anyway, I just wanted to share this with you just because we were very disappointed with our experience at your restaurant...
Read moreAvalon Cafe is an absolute dumpster fire. The only reason they get two stars instead of one is that the food was actually okay.
We called and made a reservation for Friday, 1/20/23. The woman who answered the phone said they had availability, and what time would we like? We said 7 pm and the woman said "you have a reservation for 7 pm, see you soon." When we arrived (shortly before 7pm) the people ahead of us had walked in w/o a reservation and were told it would be a 30 minute wait for a table. I then gave the guy my name, he found my reservation, crossed my name off the list, and informed us that "it would be a 30 minute wait for our table." The time was exactly 7pm. I said "I have a 7pm reservation, why do I have to wait 30 minutes for my table?" The kid said "it just is what it is, I don't know how to explain it" and walked away.
The rest of the night was the same way. After a 45 minute wait we were finally seated. I've never seen a wait staff more disorganized or communicate more poorly. We didn't get waters until we had been seated for 10 minutes, we didn't get our bottle of wine for 10 minutes until after we ordered it, the wine wasn't uncorked at the table (was already open when brought), and the whole scene inside the restaurant was complete chaos. The food was fine (I had the KC Strip and my partner had the Linguini) but we could never really relax. I...
