Came into town for a wedding and chose this hotel because it was the closest to the venue. The price is not great for the quality of room, which was dark and outdated. The carpet did not feel clean and the bedding was well past it's throw-away date. There was not usually anyone at the front desk, so it took a while to request more toilet paper, of all things.
There is no dedicated parking. When we arrived during the middle of the day there were no spots available and we had to park a few blocks away with our luggage, which was not at all convenient. There is a beer bar in the downstairs that usually had three or four people in it, although it got significantly louder one of the nights we were there. There are shops within very easy walking distance, although most things except bars close down relatively early at night.
Why I will never return: While in the room I reached down to pick up what I thought was one of my shirts. It was not my shirt, it was children's underwear, and my wife and I were traveling alone. This pair of children's underwear was caked with poop. Not stained, covered. The worst part is that it was in plain view, not under any furniture, definitely somewhere that a cleaning person should have looked and definitely somewhere a vacuum should hit after a stay. So yes, they gave us a room with literal poopy underwear laying on the floor. We went to talk to someone at the front desk and there was no one there. We were leaving anyway, but I couldn't leave that hotel fast enough.
On the plus side there was a six pack of beer as a welcome gift to our room. Sadly, it will take more than a six pack to allow me to forget the feeling of holding someone else's poopy underwear...
Read moreThe exterior, lobby and bar were very charming and the people were fantastic. The room decor is average to poor and does not match the rest of the hotel, but the major problem I had was the HVAC system. It would not adequately cool the room (you couldn't run the AC in constant fan mode), and was not pulling the humidity from the air. It felt like we were camping in FL, not sleeping in a climate controlled hotel room. The HVAC unit had soaked the carpet for about a 5' radius from the unit and it was clear it was a known issue because the baseboards had swollen and pulled away from the the wall (that had a 1/4" wide crack in it). It was so "swampy" in the room my wife and I got zero rest and were looking to move to a different hotel at 3am. The staff, lobby and exterior get five stars. Without the HVAC problem I would have given it three stars, but if you cannot sleep in a hotel room, what's the point? It may be a problem isolated to our room, but we'll never know. The room decor needs some work and they could start with adding headboards. With a beautiful room and no problems, the price would be fair. As is and with no problems, it's overpriced. With the problems we had, definitely not worth the price and probably will not be...
Read moreThis was our first time staying at the St. George Hotel in Weston, although we have been to Weston several times for weekend getaways. I give this hotel two stars only for the excellent location and fascinating history. It was also reasonably clean. The location is perfect, within a short walking distance of O’Malley‘s, shops, and restaurants. The hotel dates to the 1840s and has a rich history. However, that’s where the positives end. |The rooms are extremely outdated. The furniture is shabby and cheap and looks like it was purchased at a garage sale. The paint on the walls is chipped in many locations and there are screws in the walls and empty spaces where pictures once hung. The carpet is worn and frayed in some areas. The bath towels are not much bigger than hand towels, rough, and thin. Overall, the room was dark and unattractive. It’s a real shame because this could be such a cute historic hotel with an investment in paint, carpet, and decor. The total for our room was $210 including tax. Far too high for the quality of the room. You’re much better off spending another $20-$40 to stay at a cute local B&B where you will also get a...
