The restaurant is new, modern and inviting. We noticed as we sat down that the chairs could use cushions. The decor is great, very clean and streamlined. We tried a lot of the food as it was our first time there. Our favorite taco was the Birra taco and the De pollo pipian. The tacos were delivered individually easy to eat on fresh tortillas. The enchiladas we ordered were packed in a small square paper bowl and it was difficult to eat. The seasoning was good but not anything spicy. They had used fresh ingredients. The guacamole was good but not chunky. They had homemade chips but not warm. I didn't care for the drunken beans which had Modelo beer mixed into them. It's a unique flavor. It was hard to order as I prefer to speak to a person and have them enter it into the register. The concept is self serve ordering. The drinks are served in bottles or cans. No fountain drinks. The pricing is as expensive. It was priced at the same price point as a sit down restaurant with a waiter restaurant. In this restaurant you only get plastic silverware and paper bowls to eat on. My recommendation is to try the two tacos I mentioned and go from there. Everyone is different. It's a nice place for a quick taco if you are in...
Read moreCame here with some family to meet up before checking out a speakeasy in the area and it was a fantastic start to the night. I’ve seen a lot of griping from people that they had hoped this spot was more in line with the other restaurants under the Bien Trucha banner but I feel like they did a decent job of setting expectations while letting people know this was going to be a different experience so I wasn’t thrown by the new concept.
I enjoyed the feel of the place and the ambiance. Felt like a chill bar spot I would have no problem hanging out in while in Wheaton with the obvious added bonus of delicious, affordable Mexican fare that doesn’t sacrifice quality.
I ordered some tasty shrimp tacos with great seasoning and handmade tortillas. They were topped with what was definitely the best guacamole I’ve tasted from a fast casual spot. Others at the table tried several different types of tacos as well as enchiladas and everything looked really appetizing. We also sampled a number of their draft cocktails which all tasted wonderful.
Sweetchilango can definitely hit the spot if you’re looking for an elevated fast...
Read moreThe food is delicious, spicy, very original. Never had Mexican food like this that's for sure. The dish I got, enchiladas birria, was delicious, but very confusing. Everything was just piled together in the 3" deep to-go container when we were dining in, which made everything just combine together like a chili or stew. It was hard to eat, and hard to appreciate the artistry of the dish when everything was just piled in like that. Maybe I just don't get it.
As for service, I'm not sure that their experimental hybrid of fast-casual and traditional waited tables is working out. We were very confused about how to order, what we were ordering, how we get our food, etc. other customers were having the same problem.
Also, if they are going with fast-casual, then the prices need to be in line with other fast-casual places. Dinner for two with no alcohol (or even soft drinks - we just had water) cost us $50 including tip. I'd expect that from a traditional restaurant, but not...
