I had higher eggspectations..... I had called the day before to confirm they were open and ask if they did anything for a birthday. We were going to be there the next day for breakfast on my daughter's 21st. I was told by a gentleman that reservations would be good, so I made one for four to sit outsid. He said he would make a note that it was a birthday and told me they had a few selections for her to choose from. Fast forward to the very next day...
Food: We ordered: Classic Eggs Benedict, Strawberry (or some type of berry) Crepes and two Veggie Skillets. The potatoes in the skillet and with the eggs Benedict were not cooked right with some still pretty hard and some slightly softer. The egg on the Eggs Benedict were overly cooked, no runny yolk to mix in with the sauce or potatoes. The english muffins on the side were barely toasted. The restaurant wasn't crowded, so this just felt rushed, Overall: The food less than desirable and was not consistent: food was partially undercooked or over cooked.
Atmosphere: We sat outside and it was nice space. There was a parade coming soon and it was a bit rainy, but the seating area under the tent was pleasant and the tables were not too close to each other so we could carry on a conversation and still hear each other. It wasn't crowded when we got there, maybe a few tables, but a couple more table were seated after we arrived and ordered. Still about half the outside was empty and only 2-3 tables inside were seated. Overall: The atmosphere was pleasant and I love what Wheaton has done with the space to allow more outdoor seating downtown!
Service: After our waitress took our order, she only came by one other time when she offered to refill my coffee and our waters. We sat with dirty dishes waiting to be cleared from the table in order to open a few gifts. No one came over to clear the table until I started piling the dishes off to the side in front of me to make room. I wanted to take half of my food home to cook the potatoes some more and replace the egg, but because no one ever came over until I finally piled up all the dishes, I didn't get to ask for a box and was over the waiting. After the tables were finally cleared, we opened 3 gifts and chatted for about 10-15 minutes. Still no one came back to check on us and we weren't ever asked if we wanted anything else until the waitress stopped while helping another table to bring us our check, So, we left without doing any type of birthday 'treat'. The moment we got up to leave..almost immediately 2 guys raced over to our table to clear it like vultures waiting on prey. If someone just asked if we needed anything else at any point, we would have ordered the birthday girl a treat and then left sooner. We all had things to do in preparation for a party later. This was supposed to set the tone for the day. Overall: We were mostly ignored and the food was not worth the 20...
Read moreWe had a reservation and had a too long wait to be seated. A drink order ensued and one of the drinks totally unacceptable. Rather than advise that flavor was out the waiter made his own substitution - better if he’d come out and ask instead of assuming, as his choice was not what that person could drink. Then we placed our order - with NO substitutes just a please no cheese in a crepe/egg dish no onion in a skillet, hollandaise on the side; NOT one of those requests was honored in our party of 8.
After an HOURLONG or more wait as we watched later tables served, the food arrived in LONG intervals instead of all together, AND we had to ask multiple times where is our food. Then we had to REMIND the server that 5 of our orders should have an English muffin which again took an inordinate amount of time.
The waitstaff did Not check our drinks until we asked. No coming around to let us know about food delay or offer to bring children’s order first.
And absolutely no empathy from any manager - just a lame oh we are super busy . If you cannot serve that many tables then do NOT seat that many!!!!!!
Not only are we not returning we’ll tell everyone we know to...
Read moreWe had a satisfactory experience here at Egg'lectic Cafe quite recently. We wanted to do a brunch somewhere in the neighborhood for our Ma's birthday, so we called ahead and made a 10am reservation during the week. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly and were seated immediately. The interior was clean and cozy, and the place was lively but not jam-packed.
Our server was eggcellent. She was an absolute gem and a rockstar. Served us our drinks right off the bat, brought us out some delicious flavored croissants, and took our orders, which came out in practically no time. The food was fantastic! Had some chilequilles, corned beef hash, pancakes, fries & chicken tenders for our little ones, and a couple of breakfast skillets. All were hot, ready, and delicious upon arrival and tasted country farm fresh.
Overall, we had a pretty good experience. The service was fast and friendly, the food was marvelous, and the dining area was neat and tidy. Will definitely be stopping by again. Thanks for the great time for my Ma's...
