Tried out a newish local spot called Nashville Detroit. It's been open for I think around 9 months. I was able to go two different times and me and my husband tried a couple different things. We met the owner and he was very nice and he shared his excitement for making good food and having a carry out spot because he is focused on the food and not all the other things involved with running a restaurant.
When you walk in you can tell that the place is clean and airy and I like that you can see the cooks making the food. Everything is made from scratch.
The first time there I had a Nashville Hot Fish sandwich and let me tell you that fish sandwich was fire. Literally and figuratively. Lol The spice was real. I like spice so I loved it. I also tried their Sweet Grilled Corn that was pretty good. My husband also got some loaded fries with mac and cheese and chicken called Nash Mac Fries. Overall, he liked it, but because the mac and cheese wasn't that great, it took away from the loaded fries. If you're looking for a traditional mac and cheese, this is not it. There was some type of sauce drizzled on top and if you look at one of my pictures closely you can see the sauce drizzled on top of the dry pasta. It's definitely not a lot of sauce and it's not blended in with the pasta.
The second time there we ordered Catfish Bites, Collard Greens, and Corn Bread Stuffing and a Cow and Piggy Burger. The catfish bites were spectacular. They tasted fresh and they had a cornmeal batter that wasn't too thick. The collard greens were delicious They were well seasoned, and I'd love that they weren't overcooked. The stuffing was also very good and well seasoned but it was just a little dry. It would be excellent if gravy came with the dressing. It's available on the side but we didn't notice that until after. Usually cornbread and gravy are served together so we thought it would be included. My husband liked his burger and of course the fries are crispy and well seasoned.
We're happy to have found this spot and we'll definitely be back again in the future to try other things on the menu. Pro tip. Definitely order ahead so that you don't have to wait...
Read moreI knew I was in for a treat by the aroma that filled my car before I even left the parking lot! Friendly service, the man who packed up and handed me my order (Maybe the owner?) was super sweet. My 11 year old got the chicken fritters, he's hard to please but he more than approved! They were huge, juicy, tender and crunchy.... and the ranch was great too which is important lol. I got the bang bang shrimp po-boy and WOW!!!! GIANT AND DELICIOUS. Mashed potatoes were freaking AMAZING. Better than grandmas. Dont tell her I said that. Luckily I live close by so everything stayed fresh and crispy, but I do think being carryout only may give this food a disservice for anyone with a longer drive or late picking up their order. I could see they don't have much space to add a few tables, but that might be a good idea for future locations because I seriously think this is a place that could take off into a chain / franchise opportunity.
Anyway, can't wait to try more!
Ps. I've been following their page on Facebook since they opened, and as somebody who has worked in the restaurant industry for 25 years, I have to say I appreciate how much the owner seems to Value his employees. I wish all restaurant owners and managers would follow his example. He really shows his appreciation for them very often!
I see comments in these reviews about the food being pricey and I must say, aside from it being pretty standard for this day and age IMO (have you not noticed a garbage Big Mac combo is up to $10+ these days????) he serves a quality product, more than fair portions, and I have a feeling he compensates his employees well so it's worth paying for! Dining out is a privilege and a luxury and you should expect to pay premiums for it so that the people busting a$$ preparing your food (saving you the headache of cooking and cleaning) are compensated and can make a...
Read moreWithout a doubt, the best southern food that I've tried in this state. It's so nice to have something unique in White lake. The food looks exactly like the pictures you see online which was a new experience for me. Without a doubt I will be going back there on a regular basis. They're pulled. Pork is addicting. Never in my life have I had better pulled pork especially when combined with their homemade sauces. They knocked the ball out of the park every time I've been there. I used to have to drive out to Charlie's still on main to get decent food. I wouldn't care if I lived right next to Charlie's... I would make the drive to Nashville Detroit their food is so much better and their owner has complete confidence in his product as he should. It's beyond phenomenal. I cannot recommend this place enough. I waited so long for it to open and it was more than worth the wait. Aside from their pulled pork, they're fries are top notch. I'm extremely excited to try their chicken and waffles and when I got the Cajun catfish po' boy I was amazed because I've never had catfish taste like that, but I don't want it to taste any other way if you're even contemplating about going to here . I highly recommend it actually I can't recommend it Enough! It is worth every penny! Not to mention the owner. Jay is such a good dude. When I was there he let me sample the pulled pork before I even ordered it and it got me hooked and he has complete and total confidence in the food he puts out. He's been doing this for a long time and he's obviously mastered and perfected his craft. I can't wait to see that restaurant expand and become one of the top places in White lake, probably even...
