My significant other and I finally got around to trying this restaurant. We came on Juneteenth and as expected it was very crowded. We didn’t mind. The host staff were lovely and we were happy to wait. We were seated earlier than our wait time of 45 minutes which we were very happy about. Looking at the menu, it was clear this is not a diner. Coming from NJ, I expect a diner to be a diner. This is not a diner. This is a diner themed restaurant. We were brought to a room in front of the restaurant. While the main part of the restaurant was as loud as you’d expect any other restaurant to be, this front room was so loud and echoing it was almost impossible to hear anything. Our poor waiter (who was phenomenal by the way, shout-out Josue!) had to keep repeating himself not from him not speaking from a normal tone either. Who designed that room to be entirely glass and metal I guess didn’t think of the people who’d have to sit in there. The room was full of children (which again I don’t mind) but when kids are being kids it was impossible to hear anything due to the great deal of noise. I asked our waiter if the restaurant is typically this packed, and he said this is usual for the weekends. So, if you don’t get over stimulated or you don't want to talk to anyone at your table I suppose the front room is fine.
We ordered the old bay fried shrimp as an appetizer and it was delicious. when I opened my silverware to eat said shrimp, we discovered it was dirty. Our waiter happily brought me a new set. My S/O got the protein pancakes and he enjoyed them. I wish the full sized pancakes would have had a platter option. Most diners have a breakfast with a potato dish, eggs, and a meat choice with full pancakes but this restaurant didn't, so in lieu we paid $5 for the smallest sausage you'll ever see. (see photo, jam packet for size reference.) I ordered a burger. I tried to order it medium well, but I was told I could only order the burger well or medium. They would not cook it medium well. So I went with well done and it was a hockey puck, too difficult to eat with my braces. If you'd usually go medium well, I'd suggest going with Medium. I assume they cannot cook it in between because they probably cook the patties in bulk and just heat it up per order.
We spent almost $80 after tip for two people. We couldn't hear each other or our waiter due to excessive noise and echoing in that front room. The only food we consumed that was good was the protein pancakes and the shrimp appetizer. The staff were wonderful. Everyone we interacted with was great. But man, I really think a lot of things need to...
Read moreAs someone who’s been going to many different silver diners for years, I don’t take it lightly when I say this was probably the worst experience I’ve had thus far. I work in the service industry, so I am usually very patient and kind when it comes dining in, but this was such an experience that I’m writing a review.
As a server there are certain steps taken to make sure every guest is accommodated, even if you’re busy. With no exaggeration, I literally only saw my server when she wanted to take our order, and pay the bill. She didn’t even ask how the food was, even by the end.
The person I came with and myself ordered 5 wings as an appetizer, and then our meals. Our food took a while which I didn’t mind, and it came out well before the wings. Which again, I didn’t mind. The problems began when we waited just for my food to be super cold. This is something I couldn’t tell her because she never checked in. I wanted to simply ask her for a spoon and napkins during our stay, but again we were never checked on so I ate my cold curry with a fork not to be a bother.
Again this was just a hiccup, until the wings came, I took a bite and they were like fully pink inside, which again we couldn’t tell her as she never checked on us. So we waited well over 20 minutes for small, raw wings (again it was only 5). Once we ate our entire meal, stacked our plates, and then some, she comes over and says “ok so you ready for the check?” No dessert (which we would’ve ordered), no how was your food, nothing. We’ve been sitting with the pink wings at the end of the table the whole meal and I had to point it out to her that they were raw, and I didn’t want to pay for them. She says “oh sorry” walks away and discounts them. Personally, if my kitchen had almost poisoned someone with salmonella, I probably would’ve at least offered to take them off instead of having to be asked, and told a manager to reach the table just to make sure everyone was good, as a liability like that is fully on the restaurant. Once we were finally able to pay (I saw she was busy it was fine), 20% was already preselected based on the price including the wings which I found odd, but maybe that’s how the toast tablets work.
I still tipped her 20% of what the order would’ve been without the wings in cash as that’s best for servers, and left. Again, never being asked if the meal was okay other wise, or being accommodated for this experience, which I feel I shouldn’t have to raise hell for to receive. If you get anything from this review, don’t order the wings at the white marsh location, or really expect anything more than a common...
Read moreMy first experience was about 1-2 months ago it was freezing and I wanted something hot to eat so I ordered mashed potatoes and meatloaf. It came out cold (the gravy and the meatloaf) the mashed potatoes were lukewarm. :( The only thing I can imagine is that it sat in the window too long. My glass of water had a crack at the rim of the glass luckily I noticed it before I started to drink it. The salad came out after the meal. So needless to say I didn't eat anything I notified the manager he gave me a coupon to come back for a complimentary meal. ( this visit was standard dinnertime it wasn't close to them closing it was standard busy dinner time)
My server yesterday(3.25.25) was Audra, very nice. I found out the shrimp and grits are not served in the evening so I had to resort to getting a simple Cobb salad and I told her no ranch dressing, give me balsamic vinaigrette. Well the salad had Ranch on there so she had to ask them to remake it. And she said that the salad was beautiful before but when they made it on the fly, it came out I was like what is this and I ate it because I was hungry but it was like a basic salad that there was no pizzazz. Now again I wanted a Cobb salad - no bacon I had to ask for the bacon. I barely could see the crumbles of blue cheese. I had to ask for onions.
So from both times my food came out incorrect or either cold so at this point I think it's the back of the house that's not paying attention. If I were you I wouldn't waste my time. Plus they serve steak, and for whatever reason is advertised with scallops spinach and french fries. French fries with a steak??. So clearly they're trying to entertain the younger crowd because if you're going to serve a steak you need to serve some sort of mashed potatoes and you need to serve asparagus or some Swiss Chard. I mean really they can even make some steak and lay it on a bed of polenta , or maybe you can serve some penne pasta tossed in vodka sauce, but anything other than french fries. 👎
And again yesterday I went regular dinner time 6:00 / maybe 5:50 something like that. So if I were you I would not waste my time because I've now been twice and each time my food has come out incorrect. I would recommend just go across the street and go to Chili's or go to another eatery on the Avenue because this place is a complete...
