The place had a very cool western motif. Alot of the decor was extremely old and iconic. I ordered pecan pie, chicken fried steak with corn and onion rings. My wife had the c.f.s. also with French fries and a salad. My son ordered a Mexican dish (don't remember what it was exactly) with a beef enchilada and Mexican rice.
The complimentary chips and salsa were good. The pecan pie was delicious, and that was where the goodness ended. The chicken fried steak was so bad neither of us finished our meals. In fact, my wife pushed it away after the first bite. The gravy was thin and almost flavorless (though creamy). I made it through half of it before giving up. The breading was like a single dusting of flour with some pepper and ended up just being mushy. The steak was such a bad cut of meat, in order to render it as chewable it had to be tenderize to the point it was only a quarter inch thick (maybe a half...maybe). It was so gristly, it still took several swipes of a knife to cut. The corn had no flavor seemed like it was just boiled to the point of almost being overcooked with no seasoning. Adding salt didn't even help. They shouldn't have even bothered battering the onion rings because it wasn't crispy. It was just as mushy as the chicken fried steak batter. My son didn't really eat anything he got either. His queso sauce didn't even taste cheesy...it was...weird. the queso had an odd consistency and flavor. The Mexican rice was partially crunchy and the flavor was horrible. The other thing, which I don't recall the name of, had a good crust but the "queso" all over it was very detracting. His beef enchilada was likewise inedible.
We spent about $60 for a meal we couldn't even eat...ok, maybe we could have, but we really didn't want to. In fact, it left us with such a bad taste we didn't want to eat again until 10 hours later...at a place we knew had excellent food.
The restaraunt was clean, but there was a bad smell in the restrooms. The service was ok, polite but no what I would call friendly. I will...
Read moreWe're somewhat new to the area, but have eaten breakfast here before and it was good so we came in for dinner. Was very disappointed. I'm learning that the farther away you get from the border the lower the quality of Mexican food. They should really take Mexican food off their menu. I got the Chimichanga plate. Weirdest Chimichanga I've ever had. All the inside shouldn't run out when cut into. Tasted like chili wrapped in a fried tortilla. The rice and beans were good though. My wife got the Nachos Deluxe. Nothing "deluxe" about the 8 soggy chips she received! There's not really much to describe with the nachos because sadly, there wasn't much to it. I had contemplated going back to give them another shot, maybe order a steak. Then I realized if they can mess up something as simple as nachos and a chimichanga, no way I'm trusting them with a steak! My over all thoughts are that the quality of food was very poor, especially for the price. You will find similar quality food in the freezer section at your local super market. On the other hand, the atmosphere is great. The rustic, western theme is very nice. We really like how each booth is different. We sat at the Clint Eastwood table. But, if you have ever eaten at a decent restaurant outside of Wichita Falls then you will probably not be happy with the food here. We love supporting local small business but it's hard when you leave still hungry feeling like you wasted your money. Before you reply saying you wished I had brought it too your teams attention so it could be made right, we did. We were offered $5 off our ticket. What a joke. We may be back again, but I think we'll stick to breakfast...
Read moreI see this place all the time when I go to tractor supply, so I finally decided to stop in. I was honestly really looking forward to eating here.
First time coming here!
The atmosphere is nice, it's got a very 'rustic' feel, and wears its age with a badge of honor. Jukebox, massive bear, wood everywhere-cool vibe. But that's literally all it had going for it.
Out of all the 'dine in restaurants' I've eaten at in Wichita Falls. This place comes in first prize for being the worst.
I saw reviews saying they got chips? I didn't get chips at all. I got a waitress that was less than welcoming.
I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with Okra and mashed potatoes, and it comes with a wheat roll.
The chicken fried steak lacked anything one would describe as flavor. It was this strange consistency also. Like the meat itself would physically fall apart from each other. It was awful.
The Fried Okra came out greasy, and the physical Okra inside was extremely tough and leathery.
The mashed potatoes were the icing on the cake for a bad experience. They literally taste like the powdered ones you get and mix with water from Walmart. No seasoning, nothing. Just nasty puffy white ick.
They don't give you real butter. They give you 48% oil spread to put on your roll, in case the rest of your dinner wasn't oily enough.
While excited to see the Juke box in the booths and the large one in the lobby, there was zero music, and it felt like a morgue inside.
I couldn't even finish my meal. I maybe ate a third of it before I got grossed out disgusted.
Of all the places to spend 20$ for lunch here in North Texas, this...
