Read moreOk so here is what we encountered. Keep in mind this is Applebees and our expectations are set to a bare minimum of quality and service when we go there. We have had good and bad experiences in the past so they tend to even out. UNTIL TONIGHT The 30 minute wait was to be expected. However, we were the only people in line and there were at least 8 tables open the entire time. A waiter told the the front staff to seat him because he had open spots. we kept waiting.. not a big deal. We finally make it to our booth. Waitress was there within a minute to take our drink order and was very nice. We order our food and this is where it goes south..... What did we order you may ask?? Steaks and ribs??? Not even close - we were on a deadline to get our girls to HOCO so we kept it small. 2 orders of mozzarella sticks, 1 combo appetizer, order of boneless bbq wings, and a kids cheeseburger with more mozz sticks. The wait began, we waited, we waited some more, we chatted about KU football, kept waiting and the waitress comes by to apologize for the delay saying the manager was yelling at the back to get the food out... Still not a big deal ... well we waited another 45 minutes to get 1 plate of boneless wings to the table and they acted like this is all that we had ordered. NOPE we had more food and were still firm but polite. They delivered the mozz sticks after the wings and still no kids burger or combo appetizer plate... another 5 minutes go by and they put the combo appetizer down - still no burger.. that was another 10 minutes. The Manager was informed and she stopped by the table. My wife in firm fashion made it clear we had waited 45 minutes to get our food and the appetizers should have hit the table before the wing order. Manager response yes it was a long wait (should have stopped there but continued) it was actually 30 minutes in a snippy tone. I interjected and said we were actually watching the time because we were on a deadline and wouldnt be arguing about it. Eye roll and then said i will make sure you get a discount. ... didnt ask for it but it was appreciated. We understand that the rush tonight was probably not expected by the team...I pay the bill and prepare to send the girls to the dance We sit and try to decompress from the speed eating situation that had just had to occur .. I dip into the spinach dip and boy oh boy... there was a food stored date label in my dip...... I reported it to the manager. Who took the bowl and asked if they could get us anything else,, what in the blue heck would I want the kitchen to make now???!! They fed me paper! Not confident it was an accident at this point!!! At the time we left they had no less than 10 people waiting out front but over 1/2 the tables were open still. It took every bit of common decency to walk out and not announce how horrid their...
Sorely disappointed in my most recent visit and definitely a reminder as to why we don't look at his place as a go-to for dining. Less than a mile away from home but I would still drive across town and wait 45 minutes at Texas Roadhouse to avoid going here.
Saturday night, kids are gone, me and my wife decided to go get a quick bite. Wanted to stay close, so here we go. As we walk in the door we are offered a high table sandwiched between a wall and a large group with loud children (note that there were several open tables at this point). Come on... that's like pairing toothpaste with O.J. We refused it and waited a minute or two for something else. We opted for a 2 for 27 deal--steaks, veggies, potatoes and side salad. Salads come out and immediately we recognized that the lettuce was wilted and somewhat soggy. My wife ate 2 bites and was done, I shoved all of the soggy algae lettuce to one side and powered through. My wife also noted that she could feel the bottom of her dish was gritty. Yes, dried food. We talked about our regret coming here until the rest of the food came out vowing not to complain to the waitress as she was the only good part of the visit. We both ordered a 6 oz. steak, but a noticeable difference in shape and size between the 2 was obvious---I am talking silver dollar pancake to 1/2 plate size chicken fried steak obvious...a good reason if any for someone to complain. Potatoes were runny. Plain, unseasoned broccoli. Not to any surprise at all, both of our plates had dried on food all over the bottom--now I started to question the cleanliness of the plate as a whole. On a flavor and food quality scale of 1-10, I gave it a 2.
It's sad this establishment has fallen so far off our radar. I remember coming here for the first time 25 years ago remembering how great it was. I have frequented this location many times throughout my adult life meeting friends, doing late night birthday drink fests and taking part of the 1/2 price appetizers after Friday football games. But no more. We have decided to retire this one once...
Read moreEscorted to the table with only a drink menu and their "Top Gun" movie advertisement, but no food menu. Waitress came asking for our order, but we still had no menu. Ordered tea a drink and two waters with lemon. Our drinks had not come by the time our appetizer was brought out by someone besides our waitress. We had no silverware, napkins or plates to eat our appetizer with. When we asked for these things he said we would have to ask our waitress. Ended up asking for silverware three times. Finally got our drinks but only one water and no lemon, though the ticket showed two, good thing it's free. Finally got silverware and napkins after the third time asking but not before our main course had already arrived. She actually asked "Will there be anything else?" Ummmm Silverware? so we waited as our food sat sizzling and getting cold. Our meals, "Cajun Blackened Chicken and Shrimp" where described as "Smothered in Mushrooms and Onions" I finally found two tiny thin sliced mushrooms mixed in with the six slivers of onions. There were five shrimp, I understand their name but come on, these were the tiniest shrimp I have ever seen! There was nothing blackened about any of it. The chicken breast seemed to have fake grill marks. It was juicy though. At the end I went to pay by scanning the QR code on the table, seemed to be working just fine but our waitress interrupted me and said there was a glitch in it. I said okay I'll pay with a credit card. As I was pulling out my wallet she ran off to ask if the QR code was working. Finally coming back and said it was. She seemed to be confused and I had to tell her to just use the card three times. 53.00 for two people before the tip. We had better service and better food at Village Inn yesterday for under 30.00. Save yourself time, trouble and money and go...
