The best way to describe McAlisters is, "solid." It's not going to blow you away with a gourmet menu or stunning ambiance, but if you're looking for consistently good food or perhaps you want to feed the kids and not break the bank, this is a good spot.
The menu is pretty simple. It's a deli, so you know what you're going there for. You can't go wrong with the McAlisters Club, (I like it on sourdough) but I am partial to the Smoky Pepperjack Turkey these days. If sandwiches aren't your thing, try the baked potatoes. My wife and kid love 'em! They are filling and there are a few varieties to choose from. Sides and drinks are just average. Lots of people love the tea, it's just not my thing. They have recently started offering flavored lemonades and I'm hooked on the peach.
As for the negatives, there are a couple. The place is located in a tiny strip mall and the parking lot can be a hassle at peak times. It's also a popular enough restaurant that it can get crowded and service can suffer at those same peak times.
That said, everyone I've ever dealt with there has been cheerful and helpful and has generally appeared to like being there, even at those hectic times. (Bonus points for engaging my four-year-old).
All in all, the positives far outweigh those negatives and as long as that's the case, we'll...
Read moreI love the quality and taste of McAllister's food. This store is always busy, there's usually a wait. Lunch is a nightmare trying to find a seat in the restaurant and a place to park in the lot. I recommend during lunch parking behind at the bank or apartment and walking over. -3 stars versus more because when dine here I frequently order carry. The last 2 orders side items have been missing. Tonight I stopped for a late dinner, I showered, sat down to eat and again potato salad was missing. I would have gone back but I was already in my cozy clothes and tired. I'll be sure from here forward to check my entire order before leaving the store and I suggest you do the same.
Update: I've ordered carry out here several times I've now learned to check before I leave the restaurant to make sure everything is correct. Tonight I had dinner with a friend there and we both ordered salads. When I asked for a knife to cut the lettuce of my salad in the chicken, I was told there were no clean knives. We both picked at our salad slightly and then chose to take it home with us so we could cut it up into bite size pieces...
Read moreAlthough a little pricey, I love McAllister's! They have a large, varied menu and I have yet to be truly disappointed with an order. Their regular baked potatoes are HUGE! The half spud on the pick two menu is the size of a regular baked potato anywhere else. Today I tried the Veggie Spud and thought it was delicious! The cheese sauce was a tasty touch! I think the McAllister's Club is the best club sandwich in town! Delicious! And, of course, no one does sweet tea (in Kansas) like McAllister's. The staff was pleasant and helpful as always, but what I thought went above and beyond today was a manager who came over to our table and offered to let our kids pick a prize out of a treasure chest. It was really special for them. The 99 cent kids meals make this place more reasonable, price wise. My only little complaint it that my potato seemed a little overcooked, almost burnt on the bottom, probably as a result of being in a warmer for several hours. Otherwise, a wonderful experience and a...
