Loved this breakfast đ.
I generally try not to splurge when I'm on travel, but I'd been good the entire trip and had a couple hours to spare before heading to the airport, so I stopped for a late breakfast. Because, well, breakfast food is appropriate any time of the day, and I was about to spend the next five hours flying home.
What you see in the picture is a single order of biscuits and gravy that comes with two eggs any style (I chose over medium), an option of either hash browns or pancakes, one slice of bacon and a small pork sausage link shape, but it wasn't a link.
Well, in for a penny, in for a pound, so I went for the pancakes, telling myself that I would be able to have some modicum of self-discipline left and wouldn't eat the entire plate, maybe a few bites to satisfy the sweet tooth.
Let's start with the main course. I've eaten a lot of biscuits and gravy in my life, spent a significant amount of time in the south and mid-west and have tasted plenty of versions of biscuits and gravy. You would think that the gravy would be pretty straightforward, and you would be incorrect. There's a lot that can go wrong with sausage gravy, from the consistency to the spice, to the size of the ground sausage mixed in. I've had breakfast gravy that was flavorless, too peppery, too thin, too thick, and so on. And if you've ever traveled south of the Mason-Dixon line, then you'll know that biscuits are a regional sense of pride, regardless of whether made in someone's kitchen, or a diner, people take the quality of their biscuits personally, and that pride showed through with these.
So, the gravy. The gravy was perfectly prepared and served hot. Great richness, not too thick, perfect balance of salt, pepper, and spice, and gently flowed over the biscuits without being runny or gloppy. Absolutely delicious.
The gravy blanketed two biscuits that were each halved, and generously portioned giving me a nice covering of gravy with each fork full of biscuit.
The biscuits maintained a light fluffiness while carrying the gravy, and the bottoms had a nice, lightly crunchy crust to them - A real treat.
Eggs are eggs, until you under or over cooked them, which wasn't the case here. Over medium, exactly as ordered, giving me that rich yellow runny yoke, and thoroughly cooked whites with no raw egg whites.
For me, the sausage and the bacon were, meh. The sausage tasted like typical frozen sausage and wasn't particularly appealing looking, and for me, the bacon had a strange, maybe from the stainless steel grill, taste. I left both as they only served to detract from the rest of the meal.
Now here's why I didn't ding them a star for the bacon and sausage. The PANCAKES!!!! OMG, I expected generic pancakes, but no. These pancakes were incredible and a true surprise to finish an already delicious breakfast. The pancakes have a unique flavor, maybe vanilla? Not sure, it certainly wasn't overly pronounced, but it was perfect. The pancakes turned out to be the breakout star of the meal - WOW.
Yes, the biscuits and gravy are worth going back for, but if you are looking for a great breakfast and haven't tried the Easy Egg yet, you've gotta try the pancakes.
Wichita has no shortage of breakfast restaurants, plenty of great competition indeed. If you're looking for a great stop with friendly service and a clean atmosphere, try the Easy Egg.
I only gave three stars for atmosphere because, after all, it's a breakfast restaurant, not a fine dining restaurant, and while it was fine for what they are, it's hard to justify four stars while giving Scotch & Sirloin four stars for ambiance, too.
Finally, if you're curious, and it was really hard, I only ate one of the two pancakes. Had I known how good they would be, I may not have cleaned my biscuits and gravy plate, but that ship had already sailed.
Oh, yeah - even with a coffee and a 20 percent tip, you can get all that for under $20. A great meal at a great deal.
Try the pancakes, and please, please tip your wait staff well. If you're not going to tip,...
Read moreWeâve tried this place two times and both have been horrible. I do not understand the hype Bc The customer service and waitlist system is awful. First time we called and asked the wait time, they said 10 min, we drove over there, it took us 7 minutes to drive thereâŚwe got there and they said the wait is now FORTY MINUTESâŚyou got that many people in 7minutes? My husband put our name on the list then came back to the car and asked if I wanted to stay 40minutes, I said noâŚwe leftâŚthen eight minutes later we got a text saying our table was ready? Lol what so weird. Our second time we called ahead to ask if we could get on the wait list, they said they donât do call ins which was fine but said we could click âjoin waitlistâ button on lineâŚso we did that, and were told 30 minutesâŚ. We drive there and waited in the car until we got the text our table was readyâŚ.no text, waitâŚ.no text, wait more⌠no textâŚso I called they said, âwell you have to come in.. thatâs when your time startsâ wait, what? She said âso that way we arenât waiting on youâ âŚâŚ.waiting on me? Lol what?! It was so strange- why did you tell me to sign up online if our time didnât start until we got there? Why put it online?
Anyway our food was cold and they gave my husband the wrong order. It was an all over bad- from the customer service from the beginning. Very very slow; not quick on refilling our drinks and the way you click âjoin waitlistâ but you donât actually join waitlist doesnât make...

AN HOUR later at noon I check with hostess again and was then actually checked in and put in line for a table! That was strike 1, at noon was told there was 4 parties ahead of my party of 2 and it would be another 10-15 minutes. At 1220 I was back at the hostess stand asking, if the check in text I got at noon said I had 3 parties ahead of me and I've watched you seat more than 4 parties and there are now at this moment 4 dirty tables am I next to be seated? I was told "there are 2 parties ahead of you still then it will be your turn" I asked "why has there been people showing up after us and being dat before us" I was told "those were bigger tables, because you are just a party of 2 the bigger tables are sat first". 2 hours later at 1pm we are seated and received our food. The waitress was very sweet and friendly but forgot part of my order and at the end of our meal had to go request the kitchen to make my side dish. Manager was very friendly with my complaints about hostess and wait time. Gave us free French toast sticks and compensated a $1.00 on our ticket. The food was normal and nothing special. Would not recommend, everyone is super sweet and friendly here, but not worth the wait! I will not be...
