We stayed at the Super 8 in West Wichita from December 22-25, 2017. We booked 2 rooms since we had 5 people in our party. The first morning after our stay, our rooms didn’t get maid service, but we had no problem in overlooking that. The rooms were somewhat clean and remodeled and overall a great value for what we paid.
After our 3 day stay, we checked out on Christmas morning. About an hour after we left, we realized we had left our small cooler in one of the room refrigerators. I had called the hotel and spoke to the front desk clerk. He told me it should be no problem to come by and grab it, that he would check for it in our room and have it waiting for us.
When we got to the property, I spoke to the front desk clerk and he had not yet gone to our room to get it He told me to follow him so we could get it out of the room. When he opened the refrigerator, it was not there. We went back to the front desk where he supposedly called the maid on duty on her personal phone and he stated that she said she had not seen it. He told me if he did find it, he’d mail it back to me.
An hour later we were right next to the hotel eating at a Chinese restaurant that is located next to the property. I figured I’d stop in to see if they had found our cooler. There was a different desk clerk and I had explained to him the situation. He took me back to the room and we looked around. Of course, the cooler wasn’t there BUT there was a SODA that was partially drank FROM OUR COOLER!!!! The reason I know it was from ours is because we brought it from TEXAS – it was an H.E.B. brand that you cannot get in Kansas. We brought those sodas up to give to our nephew because we knew he couldn’t get them there. No one in our party drank them because they were specifically for our nephew. I couldn’t believe that someone would decide it was okay to take property left by a guest just an hour after they checked out!!!
The clerk apologized and said he was sorry and “that it wasn’t right” that it happened. I asked him “Is your cleaning staff notorious for taking things that aren’t there’s if a guest leaves it” and he said YES, that it wasn’t right, but they do! That immediately left me feeling uneasy. I would imagine that most places have a lost and found, and if items were found immediately after check out, that the staff would hold it for a reasonable time and do with it what they wish if it goes unclaimed in a REASONABLE time.
The thing that upsets me the most is not the worthiness of the cooler -honestly that’s not the principal, it’s the fact that the staff felt it was okay to take something once a guest leaves. I would have no problem with someone claiming it if it had been left for a few weeks, but an hour????? It makes one feel uneasy, as if their doing that when you leave, what happens when you are checked in? Are your belongings also being gone through too?? I certainly hope not but who knows!
I have contacted Super 8 corporate and they told me they would do research and get back with me after a week. The representative told me he would make sure we’d be taken care of. I called to follow up. They now informed me it’s up to the property itself to help me out, that in cases like this, it’s out of their hands. That’s too bad – I guess Super 8 really doesn’t care about their guests concerns. We will not be staying at this hotel again, and I will think twice to book with...
Read moreThe layout of hotel is horrible and inconvenient. Booked room online with a deal Saving app all taxes and fees were to be included but when I checked in was told a fee foe this and a fee for that...my room did not feel secure at all everytime someone was opening door to room across the hall it sounded as if they were coming into my room the continental breakfast had very limited selections and checkout was by 11am yet my door was knocked on 3 times by 10:45 asking if I was checking out that day. It wasn't like that had booked all rooms for following day and needed me to be out I felt very rushed to leave and having to climb down an outdoor open metal flight of stairs to get to my vehicle I definitely won't be staying here again! So not worth what I paid....UPDATE
I received a response from the owner apologizing for any and all inconveniences I had incurred during my previous stay and informed me that all issues would be dealt with and rectified and invited me to please stay with them again....so..I took him up on his offer and hoped issues were resolved because this location had very decent and affordable rate. Room location was better however the room itself had not been updated in quite a while. the pungent smell hit you in the face the moment you open the door lighting was horrible and when I went to take a shower the front piece of the shower head fell off! Bed was decent bur breakfast was almost non existent I would think having a 3 hour window for free continental breakfast especially on a weekend the kitchen staff would periodically check on amount of food left available for guests and replenish as necessary I went down for breakfast about an hour into breakfast and had a bagel or mini hoho to choose from very disappointing..when I came back to my room to start packing 5 min laterI heard a very aggressive knock at my door...the time was 8:30...once again it's hotel staff asking if I was checking out today and reminding me check out time was at 11am. I received 2 more visits by staff before 11am telling me what time check out was!!! Very rude unnecessary and annoying to say the least...unfortunately I needed to stay one more Night in wichita with a minimal budget...so I proceed to front desk to extend my stay....the stay for following evening and morning was pretty much the same however it's been 7 days as of today that I stayed there and I'm still getting the run around as to why I HAVE NOT RECEIVED MY $50 DEPOSIT BACK IN MY ACCOUNT!!!! Management is apparently running 3 hours late on a Monday so have yet to speak to him today....if u have the opportunity to spend the extra few bucks on a room DO IT!!! HORRIBLE...
Read moreSo many fake reviews from the owner! I bet there is some service they're paying for to get these. They should spend the money on cleaning up the place and actually FIX the issues, lol. Priorities seem to be lacking.
Pretty unappealing rooms overall. The bedspread had cigarette holes in it and the room stank like cigarettes even though it is marked with a placard as a non-smoking room. Had to open the window and air it out. The whole guest area smelled like an old lady's apartment. Honestly some commercial disinfectant everywhere would do wonders.
Very strange electrical work. There were multiple switches on either side of the bed for the same light, some weird lights all over the place, exposed wiring above the vanity, and questionable amounts of electronics behind the TV—with suspicious dried white splatter on it.
Layout is bizarre. The refrigerator isn't in the cubby designed to hold it. There is a space for a chair and possibly a table, but that was just blank. Doorknob holes busted in everywhere. Shoddy patches all over the walls. Bare minimum towels... I honestly didn't even want to shower here and just waited until I got home the next day.
So glad I don't own a blacklight.
What's weird is that it looks like the place was refreshed within the past few years, but perhaps switched management or they just really let the place go. They desperately need to spend a few thousand dollars on paint and new linens at least. Maybe get a company to come in and steam clean the place. Hire a competent handyman to fix up some of the sloppy details.
Good news is that I did not see bedbugs or roaches. Bad news is that I was compelled to even check based on the previous reviews.
Staff at the front desk seemed nice. Never really asked for anything and... Well... Room says it's non-refundable, so I wasn't about to try.
Definitely cheap for a reason! Maybe try any of the other properties in the area unless you really can't afford...
