Reserved an area for a party of 20, there was one waitress for the entire party, she bragged that she’d been there five years and had single handedly served much bigger parties before so this was nothing. WRONG! Wait time between ordering a drink and getting it was approx. 30-40 minutes, then another 45 minutes if you actually wanted another. One guy who ordered a beer never did receive it after waiting 2 hrs. They were out of common wine (despite their extensive wine cellar). When I finally did get my drink I noticed a large crack down the side of my glass. We showed the waitress the obviously cracked glass & she just went to the bar and came back with a new glass to pour my half drank cocktail in (glass chips anyone?) We were not given any napkins, after asking for them twice, we were informed they did not have any as the new owners were “switching vendors and all the cloth napkins were in the laundry”. She then proceeded to bring us a stack of small cocktail napkins (the kind you put under a drink) to use with our steak dinners. There were other empty tables already set in the restaurant with the cloth napkins on them but apparently those couldn’t be used for us. They normally bring out bread before meals there, and as our food was coming out we asked why we didn’t get any and were informed “under new ownership they’ve been instructed not to give out bread unless the customer asks for it”. The meals all came out at various times over a 45 minute period, the waitress had no clue who ordered what and in fact set one order in front of a totally empty chair. It took us about 10 minutes to notice and try and get it to the right person. Some people were done eating as others were just starting. 3 people had to send way over cooked steaks back (and were told that anything over medium they can’t guarantee). Three others had cold food. One guy had his wrap brought out & was told his french fries would come out separately, 20 minutes later. Other meals were brought out with their sides to follow 10-20 minutes later. The whole dining part took well over 2.5 hours, but the real fun began when the checks came out. It’s like they just threw all the orders into a bingo hopper and pulled them out and mixed and matched them on checks. Not a single check was correct. People had meals & drinks on their ticket that weren’t theirs, it was utter chaos. In trying to correct them, incorrect checks were brought back out to us two & three more times, this process was well over 45 minutes. Oh, but rest assured, they had already added an 18% tip to everybody’s bill for the “stellar service“ we never received. When we all finally had somewhat correct checks (still not all 100% right) the waitress disappeared for 20 minutes as we all sat there with coats on ready to go as the band was packing up. After 25 minutes a couple people brought their checks up to the bar and asked if they could check out there so we could finally leave (we were going on 4 hours there). The manager was watching all this unfold but never offered to help the waitress, apologize or comp anything after our party had just spent over $1,500 there. I went and told the manager, Mohammad, what a bad experience we had and he was immediately defensive telling me “he’d already heard”. I reminded him we could have chosen anywhere for this birthday dinner but we chose Hangar One and he proceeded to tell me that maybe some of it was OUR fault. He then went on to say that maybe if everybody just sat at the table and kept waiting a little longer and not went to pay at the bar our checks would’ve got handled better. I said that had nothing to do with our checks all being wrong three times and the food all messed up and the terrible service and lack of napkins. It’s safe to assume we will not be going back to Hangar One under this management and the new ownership. We’d advise you not to as well, don’t waste your money (and potentially 4 hours of your life)...
Read moreThe worst dining experience of my life. I can't believe EVERYTHING was bad! For 10 years I've wanted to go here and finally, I got the chance. I wanted to have a nice evening with my wife so I reserved a table for Saturday evening. We arrive, and the server had to check first, for what, we don't know, I mean the place wasn't packed at all. We chose a booth and it had a rip in the upholstery. The place looks really high class, so I honestly expect attention to detail. Our server then ask what we wanted to drink, but we don't know what is offered because there was no drink menu. (More on that later.) So I ask, "what do you have?" She named a few random soft drinks then we chose. We ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer ($17 for two, and they were delicious. Now, I'm not complaining about the price because I wanted to treat my wife. We also ordered our main course at the same time. I had... let me rephrase that.... I ORDERED the ribeye, medium rare, my wife ordered the salmon. It took about 45 minutes for our food to arrive, so while waiting, I thought I'd ask Kayleigh (our server) what the small square plates were for. Now, I know they're for bread, but I wanted to hear her answer! So her reply was, "oh, they're for whatever." I said, "so they're not for bread?" "Well yeah...... Y'all want bread"? "YES", we replied. Then our food showed up, 5 minutes later, the bread. Then, she comes back to ask if we wanted a refill on our drinks. I chose a sweet iced tea. 25 minutes later, she brings it over, apologizing because she had forgotten. Then she takes the opportunity to ask if the food is ok. I told her that my steak was in no way shape or form, a ribeye, and that it was cooked well done on top of that. She said you should've said something sir. I told her that I didn't want to wait another 45 minutes. So when my tea arrived, it was unsweetened! I mentioned that, and again, she says I should said something. I told her then it would've taken ANOTHER 25 minutes! By that time, another couple takes the booth behind my wife and their server brings over....wait for it......A DAMN DRINK MENU! Which we didn't get. Then she brings them glasses of water, WHICH WE ALSO DIDN'T GET! Then our server brings us the check, and not once did she ask if we wanted dessert... Oh, the air conditioner wasn't working that day either and it was around 103 degrees outside! I've never been so disappointed in my life with a meal! The best part of the evening was the drive home with the drop top. (It was cooler by then) I told a few friends about it and they wondered why I even stayed. And on top of that, they have a tip recommendation at the bottom of the check and I tipped! I felt so cheated. How are you all still in business? You call it a steak house, so one can reasonably assume you know your way around steaks. We tasted nothing from "wood-fired" and my wife's salmon was extremely dry and over cooked as well! Tonight, I made steaks on my grill. That's exactly what I should've done LAST SATURDAY! Could've saved myself over...
Read moreThe Hangar One Steak House is a unique aviation gem located in Wichita. Seven of us celebrated my husband's birthday there this past Saturday at 7:30. They were not busy at all, maybe four or five tables dining in.
Overall, I truly hope they can get their service and quirks figured out. It is a fun environment and the food was good. They were out of several items, including baked potatoes, their side vegetables and a couple other entrees.
My husband asked if he could replace one of his sides for soup since he wanted a baked potato and broccoli. He said he would gladly pay the difference. He was told he couldn't and had to pay full price for the soup and order two sides with his steak. After having a detailed conversation about his sides and meal, his order was not placed. He ordered the filet and when he finally received it (right at closing) the filet was completely flattened out, raw in the middle and everyone was already finished eating. I believe already turned the grill off for the evening and you can tell the cook rushed it.
The server never came back to check and see if the steaks were properly cooked. Although my filet had a great flavor, it came out looking like a sirloin. I don't know if they tenderized them, but a filet is should already be tender and does not need to be tenderized.
Five of us ordered beverages from the bar and it took over 15 minutes to receive them, one was a whiskey sour and it was awful. It was creamy and had a lot of foam on it. After sending it back the bartender said it was her first time making it and they took it off the bill.
Our two teenagers ordered the chicken alfredo and it was very good. I also recommend the onion rings (horseradish sauce is amazing) and steak bites.
I'm still giving the Hanger One a generous 4 star, but the owner needs to focus on service and preparation!!! Particularly, if a sever forgets to place an order DO NOT RUSH cooking a filet, even if it is close to closing time and if the kitchen is out of several common side dishes, you should accommodate a request for paying the...
