El Maguey — Restaurant in Wildwood

Have been going here for 12 years with my family. We have had many great experiences and almost all servers throughout the years have been great, especially our favorite Ruth. But we will not be back due to the very rude service from Maria recently. We have put up with her impersonal service whenever we unfortunately got her, but this last time was the last straw. Completely over the top rude the entire time. As an example, it was my 4 year old’s birthday and we were with her great grandmother who is the sweetest person in the world. This was my daughter’s 3rd bday celebration at this restaurant because it’s so fun for her to get the big hat and ice cream and be sung to. This time, after very unfriendly service the entire time, she did bring people over to sing happy birthday, but weirdly slammed the checks on the table within seconds of giving my daughter her ice cream. Three people at the table wanted a second margarita so felt guilty asking but we did anyway. And then more rudeness. Especially to my sweet grandmother. Not acceptable! We never asked for a check and were never asked if we were ready for one. This review is not based on that one example at all though. I'm struggling a bit with this one. I love the food here, and the prices are reasonable. This is probably my favorite Mexican restaurant in St. Louis. BUT... if you get the wrong server it can ruin your entire experience. Most of the staff are phenomenal, but there are two in particular that I refuse to have provide service. I went out with friends to celebrate my birthday, at least 15 people there, outside on the patio. We ordered almost 7 pitchers of margaritas, a few rounds of shots, a couple buckets of beer and dinner all around along with appetizers and desserts. As my crowd dwindled, the server complained that we took up too much room and should leave... while we were waiting for more drinks and more food, and a few more people. First I would like to say, I would consider myself an avid resturant lover as I go out to eat approximately 5 times a week and I would also consider myself a semi regular at this establishment (going 2 times a week) since I relocated and I have never complained in person or tipped under 30% anywhere. Tonight was the closest I have ever come to that exception though I refrained. Never, ever, ever have I felt so disrespected as a customer. Long story short, ordered a to go order, the order came out and sat there for over 15 min on the side before someone noticed. Meanwhile, multiple servers (still on the job) were drinking margaritas that the bartender made, chatting away.
