We stayed here two nights at $200 a night for a baseball tournament. The tournament was "stay to play" where you must stay at one of the approved hotels or be charged a fee by the tournament (this practice should be outlawed). Not really the hotels fault but still annoying.
I don't know why they're on the list as a place to stay. They seem annoyed by the baseball teams. We didn't play until 2 PM the next day so a lot of us wanted to stay up late and hang out. There was already a group in the small lobby area so couldn't go there. We landed in the little "hospitality room" with another group that was set up specifically for baseball. The doors were closed, you couldn't hear from the hallway at all, but they kicked us out of the hospitality room at 10 PM. We ended up on the tiny back patio area which was not ideal.
Because of the late game we requested a late check out and were denied. I can't remember a time when a hotel didn't let us check out an hour or two later. But they didn't really want the baseball families there anyway so it makes sense.
Elevator is very small and I didn't feel good about it. I rode it once and I wasn't sure it was going to open. I took the stairs the rest of the stay. We're on the "2nd floor" but since the first floor is the lower level, the second floor is called the first floor, and what they call the second floor is actually the third level. So more stairs than I anticipated but I wasn't riding that elevator again.
Beds are ridiculous! I've never been on a bed that fold up when you lay on it. It's especially bad if you lay across the bed sideways, it's so soft and gives out underneath you that it comes up on both ends. Sleeping on it the correct direction for two nights gave me some back pain. I actually didn't mind the pillows which I noticed other reviewers did not like.
The rest of the room was fine. Well I guess our fridge didn't work that well. But the AC was a beast, the bathroom was fine, shower was okay. Lobby was nice but the place lacks a seating area like most hotels. The hallways are really long with an elevator and stairs at both ends. No side door access in the building so if you parked on the street you had to walk to the front and then walk down the long hall to your room. The garage in the back is nice but we didn't park there because we didn't realize it was free until the last day.
The staff was nice but just unhelpful with about everything. They had a welcome sign in the lobby for the baseball teams. I didn't feel welcomed here with the group we were with (and we weren't being obnoxious). The last hotel we stayed at (Country View Inn) the lady at the front desk was out talking movies with us at 2 AM. This freaking place wanted you in bed by 10! Wildwood,m should get off the stay to play list with the baseball tournaments if you're unwilling to be a little flexible.
Breakfast was basic for the price of the place and how "fancy" they pretend to be. I was impressed they offered a plant based breakfast burrito if requested. I didn't get one but at least they tried to have something. Breakfast doesn't start until 7 AM so not great when you have an 8 AM game. That's the latest breakfast time I've ever seen.
I've stayed in some sketchy hotels that were true one star experiences. Wildwood wasn't that at all but overall this was a disappointing place because of all the rules and there being no place to go. We would have rather stayed at a Holiday Inn, La Quinta, Country View, etc. If you're part of a group I'd look elsewhere! Stay here if want someone to tuck you in at night and wake up...
Read moreWe have been here more than once but after my last reservation it may be our last. First the rooms are nice, and clean. Everything worked, no issues. I made these reservations a month in advance with a credit card and even had a friendly woman call me to confirm everything because I had 6 people and 3 rooms. When we got to the hotel the young man at the counter said something about needing the card. I replied that I didn't bring it in with me because I already provided all the payment information. To that he says he has to put a hold on a card for just the room deposits, which was $300. Since I only had by bank debit card on me and it was $300 I let him put the deposit on that but the total for the room charges should be on my DISCOVER card only. He spent like 5 minutes typing and reassured me that they had the payment info and that only the deposits would come out of my bank account. Come the next day I get a notification that I'm now short $1266 and change!!! Instead of throwing a fit and yelling about it, I transferred money to cover my expenses for the day and moved on. When I went to check out I told them that I had realized that the kid that checked me in made a serious mistake and took all that money from my bank account the lady behind the counter just says" it's only a hold". I mean.....it's over $1200 that I didn't have access to and had to cover from my savings account.I shouldn't have to explain why that's a problem for 90% of the people staying in their hotel. No one apologized or even acted like they cared. She basically argued with me while I'm looking at a negative balance on my bank app. Maybe they don't understand what an authorization versus charge actually does but either way if I hadn't had the money to cover myself what then? And if my bank had charged overdraft fees for the bills that came out that same day? I also didn't get my benefits from using my credit card on a large purchase. They just said ok well we released the authorization but also failed to mention it would take 48 hours so they effectively had $1266 tied up from my bank and also charged the same amount to my Discover. The release finally came through but it was completely unacceptable that it happened, and that they not only didn't care but never tried to make it right and now it's too late. So people be warned, under no circumstances should you book with one card and use another just for the...
Read moreI hate to be critical, but I was very disappointed in our stay. We stayed here for a wedding nearby, and were able to snag a decent deal on the room because we booked so far in advance. Unfortunately for our friends, some of them were paying roughly $300/night for a room. Had I spent that much on the hotel I would have been much more disappointed than I am, seeing as we paid roughly $115/night and still felt as though it was wildly overpriced. This hotel is stunning from the outside and looks to be upscale, but the rooms do not uphold this.
So here are the things I feel really need some attention in this hotel:
1.The beds are absolutely awful. I am convinced the mattresses are actually air mattresses. After just one night sleep our whole group was complaining of back pain. I can't imagine being 60+ and trying to get out of these beds. If you have any kind of mobility issues, this hotel will be essentially inaccessible to you because of these beds.
The complimentary breakfast was very lackluster. The only type of produce they offered were apples. No other fruit, let alone fresh fruit, was offered. The only options were highly processed Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches, english muffins/toast, self serve fresh waffles, and granola bars.
The rooms were not very clean. The tub was visibly dirty and there were various debris stuck to the night stand.
They have not updated their AC/Heating units from the 80s/90s under window units that double as white noise machines even on low and turn the room into a meat locker. Ironically, the ones in the hall way were never seemingly in use. So the hallways are blistering, and the rooms are freezing.
I'm not mad we stayed here, but I wish I had known what we were getting. The hotel is advertised as though it is a high end facility and it's far from. We were happy to be in town and visit, and the hotel is in a great location which was very convenient, but I'm certainly bummed that we were made under the impression that we were staying in a nice hotel, when this facility is truly on par...
