This place is DRAMA!!!
When you go to a restaurant you’re trying to have a nice, relaxing time…this was NOT the case in this place. This is the second time I visit this place and the first time the server was very rude to us, she never came back to our table to check on us. We had to get up and ask her to bring more water and other things we needed. The second time I went with my daughter and we wanted to split the bill but the owner just brought one bill so I wanted some clarification about what had been charged so we could pay accordingly. I said: It would be nice to have an itemized bill. I have never seen a bill like this (as a customer I want to know what am I paying for and this bill didn’t reflect the prices on the menu)— please refer to the picture —he started yelling at me in front of other clients and said “this is how we do it and Williamsburg is a place of money…(so that gives him the right to charge whatever he wants?) I don’t need your business because I have 7 other businesses” Very unprofessional There are so many other good Mexican restaurants in Williamsburg…La terraza in Monticello, Taco Mexicali Richmond Road…great places to go to with a...
Read moreMy first time and very excited to taste South if the Border. I Ordered 6 taco's over the phone. 6 with extra beef came to over $20 and if you saw them with what they said was extra meat you would call them a lie! The atmosphere was great but even after ordering over the phone and driving there to pick it up I still had to wait 20 more mins. Heck, I can make TACO'S at home in a half hour. Then the meat tasted like canned hormel chili without the beans. Barely any texture to it as if it was put in a blender and tasted that way also. The vegetables were crisp and so was the taco's. Even after the trip back to the hotel we were staying. The compliment stop there. The combination of the meat soup on those taco's was horrible not to mention the price. The woman on the phone did warn me the taco's were very plan but that's why I ordered extra beef. If you can't get a taco right and in a reasonable time there's no need for me to go back. There are too many restaurants in the area that can and do get it right. Oh BTW...the 2 stars are for the great atmosphere when you first walk in. That is worth at least 2...
Read moreWe moved to Williamsburg recently, after having lived in Texas for about eight years, and I had heard good things from friends about South of the Border. My husband really liked the chips and salsa, but I thought they weren't that great. They should at least be better than Chili's chips, and these were not. Plus the salsa was way too mild.
I usually order a chile relleno the first time I visit a new Mexican restaurant, and the relleno I got from here was not that great. Instead of real cheese inside of it, it was some kind of runny white cheese sauce, so I was not impressed. And if a restaurant can't make a good relleno, then I doubt their ability to impress me with other items. My husband said his chimichanga was okay, but not the best.
The margarita was very good, and cheap for the size I got. I cannot, however, recommend a Mexican restaurant based on how good the margaritas are, unless that is the only reason you go to a Mexican restaurant, rather than for the food, as well.
So, definitely not the worst Mexican food I've had. Not even the worst I've had in Williamsburg. But also...
