Just went to Milk + Honey for the first time, and I cannot sing enough praises about it.
COFFEE: Normally I judge coffee shops based on their cappuccino, but Milk + Honey instantly blew me away by offering flat whites. I basically lived on this drink during my time studying abroad in New Zealand, and have only had a few since (none in the US). The owner, Quincy, made me a drink and it was phenomenal. So good that after my first sip in my car, I pulled back into the parking spot and went back inside to tell him how amazing it was. The flat white was smooth with the definitive taste of espresso without any of the acidity. The proportions were perfect, and it reminded me of sitting in Aukland coffeeshops with a good book.
FOOD: I ordered a croissant and after brief internal debate and it heated. When it was warmed up, it didn't lose its flakiness or mess with the texture as happens with croissants from other places. It was buttery and perfect. When I got home, I put some honey on it, and honestly my heart felt lighter.
STAFF: I am awful at small talk, and have literally been gone to coffeeshops once a week for MONTHS and never introduced myself or gotten to know my baristas. Within 10 minutes, I was sharing stories, discussing coffee, church, art, and left on a first name basis with the owner, Quincy. Also, this is the first time in 8 years that I have had an owner make my coffee, which I think speaks to the quality and heart of Milk + Honey.
ATMOSPHERE: As I went during Phase 1 of re-opening post COVID, I didn't sit in. But, there was a decent amount of communal and individual seats so that it would be totally doable to come here to work or come here for a conversation and hang out. It was bright and sunlit and had none of the pretentious feel of some coffee shops that make coffee this level of good.
OTHER STUFF: There's excellent parking which is a small thing, but MUCH...
Read moreBefore heading to Nemours Estate, we ventured out for a quick cup of coffee. The location of the café wasn’t particularly appealing, with not much to see or do in the immediate vicinity. Parking could be tricky, as meters seemed to be the only logical option around, making it less convenient for a quick stop.
The café itself was quite spacious for a coffee spot, with the added bonus of displaying local artists’ work—great if you’re into the art scene. The staff was fun and bubbly, though it felt a bit chaotic at times, with multiple customers talking at once to the two-person team behind the counter.
We ordered vanilla lattes, one hot and one iced. They were okay, but not remarkable. The iced vanilla latte had an extra pump of vanilla, which helped bring out the flavor, but both drinks had a unique taste that I couldn’t quite identify. It wasn’t my favorite, though I can’t say it was bad either—just different.
Overall, I wouldn’t go out of my way for the coffee here, but if you’re in a pinch and need a caffeine fix, it wouldn’t be a bad option. The friendly staff and the support of local artists give it a bit of charm, but the coffee itself was...
Read moreEdit: I've amended this review as the manager owner was able to make the inconvenience right. While every restaurant may face issues at times, the way they were able to both remember me and make my next visit better is admirable and should be acknowledged.
So I've been to this place 3 separate times. While the food and coffee is great, the online ordering and/or organization leaves a bit to be desired.
Specifically today I ordered food at 9:00am and was told it would be ready at 9:15. I get there at 9:40 and am told that they haven't even started making it yet. I sat for another 10 mins before asking them to cancel because staying any longer would have made me late for a meeting.
I'll note that this is the second time they somehow "missed" the online order.
I really want to like this place, but I cannot give more stars without them respecting people's time. An hour wait time is simply too much. Especially when being told it would only...
