Small, modern, purpose built theater. No obstructed views. Comfortable, banked seating; no knees on chair backs. Decor: understated elegance. Compact lobby & facilities, intelligent design, no wasted space, not cramped, comfortable alcoves while waiting.
Back of building, which looks like a warehouse, faces the entry road, so trust your GPS the first time you go. Also, the same address is used in the industrial park across the river, so get it right.
Strict covid precautions (relaxed sunce my original review). Polite, friendly, well trained staff and volunteers. Plenty of free parking.
Just off Riverwalk; several restaurants from casual sports bars to fine dining. Nearby Market closes early, but if you come for the day, you'll have plenty to do.
Play (Brighton ... Memoirs) was well staged and acted. Smiles 😃 and tears 😢. Next season looks good, so we subscribed. Reasonable prices, discounts available.

Read moreNot only was this show dated and cringey, but it was flat out racist.
In this one man show, the actor continuously mocked people of color, specifically middle-eastern/South asian people. He made fun of their accents, theur language, their way of dress, and even their SMELL.
At one point, he described a turban-wearing man as smelling like "a camel." He seemed to really enjoy making Jewish people into caricatures too.
The old, white, audience was laughing and eating up his tasteless "jokes".
We didn't stay very long. We were only 20mins into this nightmare and felt so disgusted we had to leave.
I grew up in the Delaware Theatre Company. I spent years here as a kid learning to perform. I would never have thought to see such an embarrassing display.
The woman I spoke to said that the show was not representative of the theatre itself, but really though? This is your theatre and it's 2022.

Read moreFor many decades, theatergoers have given the bulk of their patronage to the prestigious Dupont Theatre in downtown Wilmington in the vicinity of Rodney Square and Market Street. However, I think that not many people have explored the small but fabulous theatre on the Riverfront called the Delaware Theatre Company. It is a terrific place that is near Harry's Seafood and Grill and the Wilmington Market. They offee quality and top-notch performances like the well-known Dupont Theatre and the seating is comfortable. The attendants are friendly and professional and I enjoyes watching "The Diner" in early January of 2016! More people should give the Delaware Theatre Company more opportunities to dazzle them with raucous laughter, fine performances, color and pageantry, and wonderful memories to come once the final curtains...
