I have been waiting to try this place out for a LONG time. Every time I drive by, it is CRAZY packed. Great location, great concept, it was time for me to come by. Of all days, I met my son for pizza next door and we decided to try it out. It was a Monday and surprisingly not packed, so we went over. We went to the bar to order the drinks because we didn't see the waiter leaning under the TV waiting for customers. Pro-tip: Just have a seat and someone will come serve you. Exactly like it should have been! Rube me, was in too much of a hurry and hit the bartender directly.
We decided to go with a classic Margarita on the rocks with salt. After she mixed the drinks it didn't take up the glass enough so she just kept packing ice into it until it was full. Not sure I would have gone that route, but hey I haven't been a bartender since the last century. What am I to know about modern mixology. Me, I would have just liked the ingredients as done with out the shaved ice cone thrown in.
We were lucky that there weren't a lot of people. Only two other seating areas taken so when we had enough of the sun we easily moved to seats in the shade. The drinks were very good until the shaved ice started to melt. But by then it was time for us to leave.
The flies were FIERCE. I asked what the green stuff was on the bar. I thought it was some sort of special salt or special spiced sugar or even plastic thing. She said it wasn't working well but was supposed to be shaved soap to keep the flies away. Perhaps a deep cleaning might have worked?? Or just some fly traps since they weren't going anywhere.
Anyway, I loved the spot. Still love the concept. The drinks could be great. A definitely great spot to bring friends. Just make sure you...
Read moreWe live in Wimberley and cheer for any new restaurant that can deliver great food value and experience. Unfortunately, The Let Go is a complete miss. The rumors in Wimberley for months was that it was going to be a tequila & taco bar -- but it turns out that it is a sandwich shop (with a confused menu).
The food is disappointing and service was friendly, but marginal. My $12 ahi nachos consisted of 8-9 chips with one-half sliced avocado, some spicy sauce and maybe 2 ounces of tuna. My wife's Codigo tequila margharita was $18.50 and was served a small glass stuffed with ice -- not exactly a "top shelf" drink. My wife's "walking taco" was a small bag of Frito's with a few tablespoons of chili inside and sour creme (yes, it was served in Frito bag). For $8 -- it was laughable. My son said his Nashville sandwich was "pretty good" but it looked small. We are super disappointed and won't be back. For those that left 5-star reviews, maybe their food expectations are lower -- but for foodies, this place doesn't impress.
While the physical location is great, the owners have missed a golden opportunity to create a casual street bar with a unique identity (theme, menu, etc.) and deliver on a well thought-out menu. It all feels thrown together and very amateur. What's really puzzling is that they run another restaurant literally across the street (Community Pizza) that offers great food, beer selection, and outdoor space.
With no indoor seating and roof cover for a few seats at the bar and 3 side tables, it's going to be challenging to convince people to sit in 100 degree heat, or 40 degrees and pouring rain for the "experience." The "tequilia & taco bar" could have been unique in Wimberley, but as it stands -- it's...
Read moreThis bar exudes potential and charm, standing out as the only real bar in quaint little Wimberley. Its ambiance is inviting, offering a unique experience that could easily make it the coolest little bar around. However, this gem has a significant flaw that tarnishes its luster: the consistent level of intoxication among its bartenders. During multiple visits, I've observed different bartenders displaying the same behavior. Their inebriation is evident in the way they handle the drinks – handing over shots that spill over their and the customers' hands, and extends to the quality of the drinks as well. What could have been a nicely crafted cocktail turns out to be subpar, lacking the finesse and balance one would expect from the establishment. It's a recurring theme that undermines the overall experience. Despite this flaw, the bar holds immense potential. Its status as the sole authentic bar in Wimberley gives it a unique position to be a stellar local hotspot. The setting is perfect, the vibe is there.
I hope that this feedback reaches the management and necessary changes are made. The day I walk into this bar and find professional, sober bartenders at work, I'll be the first to update my review and sing its praises. Until then, this hidden gem remains just a few responsible staffing decisions away from truly shining!
Note** it is not every bartender, it’s the younger girls, but when there’s only two bartenders on staff it’s a 50/50 chance you’ll receive the super...
