Portales Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Winchester

This is the third time we have ate here. My food was just so so it has no flavor, especially being Mexican food you expect it to be flavorful. My better half enjoyed her shrimp meal. The service is the absolute worst! I understand we live in Winchester but come on. You go out to eat to find a good meal and have someone else cook and clean. They need at least two more employees. When you have to keep asking for refills of your drinks and more chips and salsa it isn’t right. Your waiter should take care of your table before taking someone else’s order!!! Our daughter wanted to order dessert and all 3 waiters were at the cash register not paying attention to their customers. I had to rattle my glass to get their attention. It took 18 freaking minutes to get the fried ice cream!!! The guy who I assume is the manager was making people wait just to pay their bill. Again more employees is a good thing. I was really excited about a Mexican restaurant opening in the area and was looking forward to eating here. Now that I have actually had their food I hate to say but it wasn't great. The prices were very fair so I can't complain on that but you get what you pay for and honestly they need major improvements. My queso was ice cold. My daughters quesadilla was absolutely disgusting to say the least. The service was extremely disorganized and overall disappointing. Every waiter/worker in there were sitting around on their phones when I picked up my order. Mexican-style restaurant in Merchants Plaza (by Walmart in Winchester). This means ample parking. The restaurant is large inside, and has been remodeled from it's previous Chinese Buffet iteration.

I can say that Portales has the best mole poblano in the area, and some of the best I have had anywhere.

There hS been some startup pains with service, but nothing that cannot be resolved with some process experience by the waitstaff.

Very comfortable, clean and roomy.

Good margaritas, with a bogo special on Thursday, maybe other nights but for sure last Thursday.
