What To Order: Grilled Pork Vermicelli Bowl, or Beef & Vegetable on Crispy Noodle.
I've eaten at Pho Hai An probably a dozen times over a three year period. Every visit has been great, and I've tried a variety of items from the menu which is surprisingly wide. From Chinese, to Thai, and Vietnamese entrees, the menu here runs the gamut.
I've tried the Pad See Ewe, the Beef & Brocoli, Pho Noodle Bowls, Vermicelli Noodle Bowls, and Stir Fry on Crispy Noodles. Ultimately my recommendations for things that have excellent flavor, are filling, and different are the Vermicelli Noodle Bowl, with Grilled pork and spring roll, and the Stir Fry Vegetables & Beef on top of crispy noodles.
All of the items I've tried here have been very good, while the Chinese menu isn't going to be the standard Chinese food your expecting, many of these items are a bit soupier with wet noodles.
Service here is always pretty good, once you order and you food arrives wait service is minimal unless you let them know you need something.
The location is generally slow at lunchtime and makes a good place to grab lunch, since the wait for the food is usually less than 5-7 minutes from ordering and the lunch prices are fairly cheap.
My only criticism is that soft drinks are served from cans and bottles. I really wish they had fountain drinks here. Pho Hai An is one of my favorite places to get Vietnamese food in San Antonio,...
Read moreVery rude and unfriendly! When we were first arrived, there was a couple at the counter in front of us placing an order. Then it was our turn. First, he never greeted us, and second he didn’t ask us if we wanted eat at the restaurant or we were placing or picking up an order to go. I greeted him and asked him for the menu and told him it was a to go order. I was still trying to be patient even though at this point he had a lot of attitude. Then when we looked over the menu and gave him the entree we selected only to be told they weren’t serving those dishes. Why didn’t he tell us that he was doing an abbreviated menu beforehand? Then he just stood there as if we were supposed to guess what side of the menu he was serving. I tried again giving him our selections from the side of the menu he was serving and literally he walked off and started to wait on tables. At that point I was done and so were the other people behind me. I wanted to try their Shrimp Pho Tom but we have never been treated so rudely before and will never visit this restaurant again. There are other Vietnamese restaurants with an owner and staff that have...
Read moreThis place is a little hidden and kinda beaten but it shouldn't disappoint. Prices are good and pho isn't bad. The broth does seem to lack something in flavor to me but other then that, it's pretty good. They also have Banh Mi (Vietnamese Sandwich)and theirs is pretty good too. The baguettes are made in-house and everything about it is delicious. I recommend the thit nuong (grilled pork) sandwich. I did overhear that it can be a little greasy at times but just let them know beforehand and I think you should be fine. Owners seem nice and the place does have a hole-in-the-wall feeling. The only complaints that I saw were the table condiments could use a little sprucing up, a little worn out setting, not sure about the restrooms, but other then that, I recommend stopping by for lunch or even dinner. Also I would like to mention (from observation and overhearing)that it's run by a few people, older folks mind you, so have a little patience. I did get my meal in a timely manner but people can be impatient. They only have young bucks working every once in a while, if that. If you're in a rush or have little time, try this place at a more...
