Came here for the first time on a Thursday afternoon and I was not impressed. My biggest complaint is the prices versus the portion of food that you receive. Many of the meals are $13+ with some being upwards of $15. We ordered the number one (two chili cheese dogs) and the number two (one chili cheese dog and one burger) and our total came out to about $28 after tax. I was fine with that price until the food came out. The first thing i noticed after opening the box was how small the hamburger and hotdog were. This is not sarcasm or exaggeration: the hamburger was smaller than a double cheeseburger from McDonalds and the hotdog was much smaller than a hot dog from a Racetrack or QT. All of those options from competitors are around $2-$2.50 each. My burger buns were either over toasted or stale (not sure which) but they were pretty crunchy. Overall, the flavor of the burger and hotdogs were not bad (which is the only reason I didn't give this a lower rating). The fries and onion rings we got were just okay.
The big takeaway is that the taste of the food is okay. However, in order for a business to be successful long term, I feel that you have to have a mastered formula of providing a great experience and product where the customer leaves satisfied with that they have received for the price that they paid. And that is where this location misses the mark. I know that there aren't many competitors for the varsity in this area, but I wouldn't be shocked if this business was closed within the next 2-3 years. I can't see it being successful long term as inflation continues to push consumer prices higher if they don't offer a better value...
Read moreIt seems that the Varsity has forgotten its place in the hierarchy of fast food chains. You're getting Cook-Out quality food, at Five Guys prices. Nobody goes to the Varsity because the food is good. You go because, up until recently, you could take a family of four to get some chili dogs, onion rings, and a frozen orange for about 20 bucks. Those days are long forgotten. $12 for a 2-chili dog meal. $15 FOR A HAMBURGER MEAL!. The try to make you feel slightly better about the price by presenting your food in a large, wasteful box that I'm sure the environment really appreciates, but at the end of the day the box is as unnecessary as lipstick on a pig. It's no wonder you never see anyone at this place. We were able to pull right up to the drive-thru, peak dinner time, and there wasn't another hotdog consuming soul in sight. I drive by this place all the time and no one is there. I imagine alot of folks have gone one time for nostalgia's sake, feel their wallet kick them in the a*s on the way out, end up on the toilet later that night, and never go back again. This place will be closed down by summer. What'll ya have? Uhhh...my money back and a pepto bismol please, cuz I've been up with the...
Read moreMy family of 4 came tonight around 8PM. Not very busy. Ordered food at walk up window. Plenty of seating available as it wasn't very busy but all the tables were dirty. I was scrubbing the table with a napkin when another guest at a different table pointed out some wipes that she said she just used to clean her table. So I cleaned the table. Got the food. Napkin dispenser was out so went to the next table and they were out and so went to the next table and they were out and the next one out too, etc. Finally found some up by the barstools. Food wasn't great but didn't expect it to be, it's the Varsity after all. I only ordered chili cheese fries because the prices were stupid expensive. You get fries, with the tiniest container or cheese and chili on the side. And that was almost $6 for that. Finally a very slow moving lady came out and started cleaning tables. Then she got on her phone. Then she just hung out at the window talking with other employees while trash was on the ground and again, no napkins. This...
