I visited Mr. Yos today excited to pick up some delicious donuts and some of their famous “Cronuts” for a lunch date with my Aunt later! What I was not expecting was this to be my last visit, as I was treated so terribly by the owner that I drove home in tears. The owner, an older lady, could not even attempt to hide her impatience with me as I asked a simple question to the cashier of whether they were able to split my half dozen donuts into two boxes rather than putting them all in one. Once the owner finally took a second to understand what I was asking for, she said she was going to have to charge me extra for each box (which was no problem!) and when I asked “how much?” she rudely came up to the register and pointed at a crumpled sticky note stuck to the side of the glass showcase and said “it costs a dollar PER BOX, so TWO dollars.” I was slightly taken aback that she was treating a paying customer in this manner but I shook it off and continued on with my order. The cashier, who I should mention was SO sweet given her hostile work environment, asked which 6 donuts I would like. I proceeded to tell her I wanted 3 “Cronuts” and apparently that didn’t sit well with the owner because she interjected to condescendingly tell me it was called a CROISSANT! I mistakenly called the croissant a Cronut because I have heard NUMEROUS people who eat at Mr. Yos rant and rave about their CRONUTS. The worst part, in my opinion, was that the owner knew what I meant and chose to belittle me anyways. Once I had finished my order, she griped at the cashier that she needed to take the drive through orders before they got backed up. She ran to the drive through window and announced as loud as she could that she “was SO SORRY for the wait” as to make it known that I had obviously taken up too much of her precious time. I left this place completely bewildered as to what I did to deserve the way I was treated by the owner. Needless to say, what should have been a quick, easy, and painless encounter ended up putting a damper on my morning. I suppose that the lesson I was taught today was that just because you treat people with kindness it doesn’t mean that that same kindness will be reciprocated…and to the lady working the cash register, you are amazing and have great customer service skills and I hope that you realize you deserve to work for someone that treats you a million times better than the miserable lady you work for!
Edit: I appreciate the response from the actual owner, apparently I was mistaken and the older lady who is always working is not, in fact, the owner. And thank you for clarifying the “Cronut” dilema, I appreciate you being kind enough to provide a simple explanation as to why you can’t call it that and I completely understand! After reading through the other reviews it seems that I am not the only one to have an unpleasant experience with this lady so I agree that talking to her may be in your best interest for a continued successful business. Thank you for taking the time to address...
Read moreIf you want any selection of donuts here you legitimately have the be there the moment it opens in order to choose from the 2 dozen donuts they make for the day. It feels as though this place is a hobby location for the owner, makes just a few donuts and is only open when it wants to be, despite its posted hours. The Safeway across the street should be stoked for Mr. Yo’s being there as it gets all of the business Mr. Yo’s turns away from its abysmal lack of selection and fickle business hours.
Furthermore, take a look through the other reviews that aren’t 5 stars over the years and you will see that every single one of them complains about my exact same issues. This is clearly an ongoing issue that is not being addressed and corrected.
Someone please open another donut shop in Windsor and I’ll love to give you...
Read moreWe came in at 10:30 a.m and felt unwelcomed! Had to ask if we could unstack the chairs as there were none to sit on at the tables. When someone would leave, they would wipe down and restack the chairs. Again, this is 10:30 a.m and still plenty of donuts left to sell in the case! I dont feel it is appropriate to clean like you are closing when you are suppose to be open! The bathroom area was barricaded off so could not use it. It was like they were in a hurry to get out of there! It was my dad's 87th bday and he was looking fwd to having their famous apple fritters that we love and even made a special trip there from out of town. On a good note...the younger girls that were helping were nice, smiled and stayed busy doing what was expecpected of them. Great donuts but sometimes one bad apple can...
